    Car for Teenage Girl?

    Hey Guys,

My little sister is turning 16 shortly, just curious to some suggestions for a car for her. Open to all suggestions, but cannot be Japanese (people key those here)!

    Thanks.

Why don't you just ask your little sister. Unless it's some kind of surprise or something. It's a big purchase. Should get her opinion on it.

    I would but:

    1) Typical California girl wants all the fancy stuff

    2) She wanted an Audi, and she isn't getting one. Doubt she can take care of the $200 oil change.

Like I said open to suggestions.

328i with maybe one or two options will be under $40k. C300 may be an option as well. Hyundai Genesis Coupe can be basically fully loaded for under $40k.

I think you should tell her to keep dreaming for a $40k car if she's 16. She live in Beverly Hills or something? Get her a 95 Ford Escort, manual with a tape deck and blown out speakers then call it a day. When she turns 18, upgrade her to a 99 Taurus.

    Classy!

Though I'd say the SHO is worth consideration.

Um.. an Audi A3 is around $30k. But I guess she wants a Audi A5 cabriolet, which girls like I guess.

I wish I had a family member to get me a 40K car. Jesus.

    I'm stuck paying for mine.

Is she a girly girl? VW Bug's are popular for girls these days..

Look into something reliable for her, that's not absurdly expensive. They key Japanese cars there, what about Koreans? My Hyundai is extremely reliable..

I think you should tell her to keep dreaming for a $40k car if she's 16.
Agreed 100%.. coming from someone who was 16 not that long ago here..

You're willing to spent up to $40K on a car for your 16 year old daughter yet you're hesitant about a $200 oil change?

    *EDIT*
Wait...shes' your sister? Are you buying this car or are your parents?

    Seriously, don't get a 16 year old a $40k car.

Get her a $10k to $20k car. Maybe a used BMW for $20k.

    Still too nice.

Get her a junker so she appreciates what it's like to have a car. Everyone beats the **** out of their first car. I did. Now that I have been paying for my 2nd, I take excellent care of it...

Laugh. Who gives a 16 year old a $40,000 car? Nevermind the fact that she's inexperienced and will probably dent the hell out of it, or perhaps wreck it because she was too busy texting her buddies about the latest Justin Bieber song. Thank god that's not my insurance policy! Yikes.

Give her a decent used car and when she complains that it's not what she wanted, smack her upside the head and don't be afraid to leave a mark; she won't tell! I know these kids all too well, may have even dated a few back in the day... ugh! They want everything on a silver platter and their wealthy big shot, usually a douche bag of a father who only recently decided to love her after leaving for 15 years will bend over backwards to keep her happy. In the long run, it's cheaper than therapy I suppose.

    Just saying...

To be fair, most of the girls I knew in high school treated their first cars quite well. Now the guys...

I guess NJ is different. Girls are the worst. They also can't park for **** - oh my god. 3 girls parked next to each other on the street by the school.. if i pushed those 3 cars out of the way (2 prius and a toyota echo), i could have parallel parked a semi.. and the cars were in *horrible* shape.. just bad news..

Technically, I am her parent since our parents deceased (plane crash). No, I offered to pay for the car and insurance, she handles the maintenance etc and I don't think she has the sort of income to afford that.

Haha, she is. Thanks for the question, I completely forgot about VW. Yup, not so much a few of our neighbors have those.

We live in the Bay Area. Let's not get stereotypical portrayed California in the movies. Like your sense of humor though

You need to keep them motivated somehow. I said up to, not $40K. Might just end up getting her a Ford Taurus or Volvo S60.

    It's when people are either:

    A) Jealous

    B) Dislike the brand

They get their key and run it along your car messing up the finish.

Even $10k would be overkill. First car was something like $2-4k hyundai for myself -- at 23 years old Thought that was excessive.

Do yourself a favor and if you actually want to get her a new car get her a lease.

I have seen some really nice deals from VW and Chevy lately you can get her a brand new car for around 8k.

Humor? I wasn't joking, get her a 95 Ford Escort. My first car was a $2k chevy corsica 91 I think. Ran pretty darn good too.

Get her a newer (08+) Hyundai Elantra.. cheap to service, good cars.. very reliable.. the 2011's are semi-stylish too..

I am terribly sorry to hear that.
