I am registering a domain at namecheap but they are asking if i want to "Add Free PositiveSSL"
    What is it?

You probably don't need SSL certificate. One is needed if you are about to maintain a e-commerce website or to accept use registrations. Check whether the "Free SSL offering" has any hidden TOS.

I believe the Positive SSL Certificates are designed for encrypting web sites for low volume online transactions.

Is it worth getting ... well it's free, so there's no harm to adding, right. Maybe down the road you will want it ... however there's no harm in not getting it.

As mentioned above I would just check their ToS or any fine print ... however this should not cause you any troubles... Just make sure you read about the offer.

It's only free for the first year. But you only need it if you are going to run an ecommerce site.

    It is not necessary much.

Like the other members have stated if you are going to run an e-commerce site then you might need it. However, if you don't plan to run one then don't get it.
