How to Remove Apache File Not Exist Errors

How to Remove Apache File Not Exist Errors

Here is the Reply of the Sys Admin

    Dear Customer,

I am sorry. We are not able to resolve the File Does Not Exist errors for you. You have to do it own.

The unique errors that you have today for Apache are as follows:

client sent HTTP/1.1 request without hostname (see RFC2616 section 14.23): /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind

I would advise that you resolve as many of these errors as you are able.

As to what caused the load on your server, I can't say. There is nothing in your logs to indicate the source of the problem. During the 1PM period when your server overloaded last there were only 29 errors in Apache. The errors that occurred during this time would not cause excessive load.

I have installed a script to monitor your server. If this load issue occurs again within one week or before your next reboot, whichever comes first, we should be able to determine the source from the script's logs in /var/log/sys-snap.sh.

    hi,

Simply touch those files that doesn't exists and see if it resolves your issue as many of them are checking if file exists or not.

    # touch /usr/local/apache/htdocs/501.shtml

Most of these errors, including "Invalid method in request" and "File does not exist", can be ignored -- it's people or worms poking at your server looking for vulnerabilities, and Apache is quite reasonably saying "screw you" to them. The quoted email is quite correct -- there's no way that these are related to increased load.

Assuming you have shell access, I recommend running "top" the next time you make a blog post -- this will let you see what is causing all of the load.

    Dear vatu,

Don't go after resolving ' File Not Exist Errors' as there will be numerous bots/robots crawling the web pages other than the 'human' visitors. What you really need to check is the following things:

    1) Any DOS/DDOS attacks or abnormal http connections to your server.

    2) Since the load is spiking when you are trying to edit the blog, check the performance of the blog's database. It definitely sounds like the INSERT/UPDATE queries to your database are hanging.

Check the MySQL process list and iterate the slow queries. Optimize the MySQL server if required.

    3) Since there are non-existing objects in your code, you can seek the help of a developer too.

I would also suggest you to install mod_security for protecting the data.

The memory usage is almost 90%.

Use "nice top -c", when the process list appears hit the keys "'Shift+M' to sort the process w.r.t to memory usage.

    1) To check if there is any DOS/DDOS attack, use the below command :

    netstat -alpn | grep :80 | awk '{print $4}' |awk -F: '{print $(NF-1)}' |sort |
    uniq -c | sort -n

    2) For checking the MySQL variables to be tweaked, download and run the perl script 'http://mysqltuner.pl/mysqltuner.pl'

    3) To install mod_security, refer 'http://www.webhostgear.com/62.html'

If you are a newbie, please seek the help of a Server Admin Company or a Server Administrator.

We normally undertake these requests, but our technicians for one time jobs aren't available during weekends.

However, you can post your request at 'http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=140' for help.

At this point the load has already dropped -- you need to get the data from top earlier -- there will probably be a point where you see "Tasks: ... <some really big numbe> running" and that's when you need to look at what's going on.

Can you try disabling analog log processing? It's chewing up a *lot* of RAM.

It looks like it's built into cpanel, based on the binary's path; I don't use cpanel, so I can't help you here, but hopefully someone else reading this will know cpanel and be able to tell you what to do.
