I can download Office Enterprise 2007 for free or buy the CD from the University's computer store for $8. Vista Ultimate (32/64bit) costs $15 and visual studio 2008 also costs $15.
University at Buffalo rocks (and those prices are available to all students)

I ordered Windows 7 Professional upgrade through this, just in time for the new PC I'll be building next week.

Interestingly it's the same price as Apple's Snow Leopard upgrade, which I just picked up last night.. though that's available to everyone, not just students.

Microsoft is starting to come across desperate.

I don't think they are desperate. I think they are realizing that there are other options out there now - options that are just as good (or better) and more affordable (or free). Hopefully they will realize - especially in this economy - that their products are overpriced and people are slowly turning to those other options because of that.

They need to make the products available to the general public for a lesser price. I mean, if they slashed the price in half or more, I imagine they would sell considerably more units, making up the difference and then some. And as someone else pointed out, less pirating as well.

    Just speculation!

I would never have gotten Windows 7 if it weren't as cheap as we paid. We also got Office 2007 from the ExpertZone, and we never would have gotten that either. I would have been willing to spend $30 - or even a little more - for Windows 7 (as a non-student), but not much more considering that I use Linux as a desktop OS .... and it costs me nothing.

I just did it today, $29.99. Just enter your .edu email and they fire you an email right away that sends you to the product page. It probably took me under 3 minutes to sign up, and purchase it. You select between 32 and 64 bit during purchase, and it says its a download. Should be fun!

Yes it's legit. It's an offer from Microsoft themselves through Digital River and whoever the other one is. I believe this is the upgrade versions

Amazing price. I've been using Win7 on several machines for the past few months and I've really come to love it. I think it may be one of the first MS products I shell some dough out for.

I went ahead and ordered professional. I guess this deal is going on until January 3rd. I should be able to download it around late October. I will keep everyone updated.

How much did that laptop cost?

  16. #41
400$ I needed to sell my desktop for something more portable. Its a

    Dell Inspiron 15
    HD LCD Widescreen 16:9
    DualCore Pentium 4 2Ghz
    1GB Built in Graphics Card
    2Gb Ram
    160Gb HHD
    6cell battery for 6+hours of battery-life

    It was totally worth it

Ive had professional for awhile, and I just got ultimate today. I actually liked the first feel to 7 a little better on professional, but I would have to say the VHD in ultimate is a total +++

Nice Windows 7 Deal, the OS seems quite nice! I think I might move to it just to use 64bit so I can use all my RAM
