    Post DefconHost - Unethical

Normally I don't even post on forums, however this was such a blatant rip that I had to share it.

Firstly, let me start by saying that for the past 3 days or so, I've been browsing WHT as a guest looking for a provider in the offers section, checking reviews, etc.

When my searched moved on to Google, I found a dedicated server provider that was advertised in the sponsored listings, the website "defconhost.com" seems to be an exact copy of "fusednetwork.com" which is advertised in the offers section here at WHT.

I haven't notified anyone of this yet, but I figured this would be the best place to start, since the community should know about this, as well as whoever runs FusedNetwork (My impression was that the WHT user "David" was some way affiliated with them)

It would be interesting to hear what David has to say in regards to this, if he wasn't already aware.

For those of you who don't like reading:
    fusednetwork.com
    defconhost.com

    Compare the two.

    Yep thats a rip.

Whats wrong with him joining to say that ?

Its the best way to name and shame the rippers and hopefully David can get it taken down.

Nothing wrong with it really. However, if it were anybody but David, I'd be thinking it was some kind of twisted marketing scheme.

Your number is listed somewhere, just not publicly.

Safe to say, stay far, far away from this company.

It's actually a new number, not even a month old. I just double checked it's unlisted by calling another phone AND going through an 800 # to triple check it.

Plus, I'm Canadian! It probably is a good idea to not call that number, but now I'm curious as to what's going on here. I might call back and ask if that # belongs to them. No harm in dialing a phone number and asking questions.

Thanks for the heads up about this thread Jon.
Certainly not a brand of mine, I'll deal with it.

    Thanks!

Edit: Oops, I should have read the entire thread prior to leaving a message. I suppose I'll be having a chat with the men in black momentarily. Shucks, looks like they're getting a head start on my brand in China for me.

What the hell I thought that the authorities never called you, rather you ALWAYS call them?

It's probably a field agents voice mail that forwards your number to the switchboard if no message is left. The fact that it's on a WHOIS for a Chinese company / individual, makes it just a little bit more interesting.

    It's the FBI after all

For those with unlisted numbers, keep in mind that even if your number won't show up on a normal person's caller ID, your phone number is actually still available to the phone switches along the way for billing and call routing purposes. When you connect to the PBX switch at a large company, chances are they may have access to the ANI information even if your number is unlisted and caller-ID is blocked.

    Ah, you are correct.

For some reason I thought if I dialed into an 800 number, then dialed another number from the 800 number that my unlisted number wouldn't go through for certain. I just tried calling an ANAC at 800-444-4444 and it does indeed read back my number...

David, I guess we're both going to get a visit!

And thanks for posting it as well, the support mediums are generally the best method though. Curious, what keywords (or companies) were you searching when you came across the ad?

I'm very curious what they're advertising under.
