Domain Name Brokers (we want to buy a domain that is in use)
I have been to GoDaddy and seen their "Domain Buy Service" which is $60 and then 10% of the purchase price. I have to assume that there are better companies in this sort of thing than GoDaddy because they don't specialize in this.
Basically we are interested in purchasing a domain from someone that is already using the domain. We want a domain name broker that will use all efforts to contact the owner directly via telephone as well as e-mail/snail-mail and get the ball rolling to see how much they want for the domain (if willing to sell).
What is the normal process like? Is a flat "research fee" plus a percentage like 10% standard or are there companies that do it for less and are efficient? What have been your experiences using a service like this?
Opinions? Experiences? Who you would recommend and why?

I had someone recently approach me thru Network Solution's "Certified Offer Service" to buy my domain. They paid NetSol $19 and only offered me $100. I didn't bother to make a counter or reply as I couldn't without signing up for a NetSol account, providing much personal details, and agreeing to a multi-page TOS. Too much bother for a low ball offer. All that NetSol does is send 2 emails and hope for a reply.

I've received a number of offers the same way. This method is too impersonal, and comes off "spammy".

i dont like NSI or godaddy services, get a lot of worthless offers through them plus they are a pain to deal with.

Why not just do it yourself?

Perhaps that's why we have lawyers, or plumbers. In some cases, we don't have a clue; in others, we just don't have the time.

Buying a domain is much different then fighting a lawsuit or fixing a sink

And in still other cases, we want to remain somewhat anonymous. I recently sold a domain to a certain national ISP who's name is three letters long and starts with "A". They used an attorney in Texas. I had no clue who the buyer was. Had I known, I likely could have gotten more for the domain. I did pretty well -- mid xx,xxx -- but that's why they used the attorney. It ultimately cost them less.

I have had very good luck with Godaddy. The customer service is very good and they seem to be a very good company. In my opinion this is the most reputable company to buy a domain from. Just my two cents

Not if people are willing to pay others who specialize in these things to handle it for them. People's mileage vary, after all.

i would recommend contacting the owner directly.. you will often get a far better price and its quite easy.
