Exclamation Godaddy - Worst Hosting Company I Have Ever Used

Godaddy should stick to what they know best, being a domain registar.

They have 24/7 support but no one I have ever talked to with maybe one or two exceptions have a clue as to how to resolve a problem.

Their Shared Hosting:

If you have a basic website that is just a website, i.e. doesn't use or run scripts or is not php/asp/database driven, a basic html site you probably will not have any problems but if not Godaddy has so many things disabled because it is "Shared Hosting." The list is too long to document these things here but take my word for it; things that are commonly allowed in any shared hosting environment I have ever used are simply not available in their shared hosting environment. They did not even have cronjobs avail for shared hosting useres until recently.

Virtual Dedicated Server:

I switched to a Virtual Dedicated Server with Godaddy (more money). They told me that support for a VDS was limited which really was not the truth, it is not limited is doesn't exist.

I needed to access sites on the server by IP. I had their simple control panel and they said I needed to upgrade to Plesk to do it. I did (more money) to find out that it can not be done on a Virtual Server because it also is "shared".

I spent a week trying to setup a new database server. There were many trouble tickets and conversations with support, they said it could be done and if I didn't know how to do it I needed to pay their helping hands support team to do it at a rate of $75 per half hour. I refused and in the end I found out that it could not be done without adding software going into a clustering environment (more money)

I could fill this page with problems I have had with them and the non-existant support who can not or will not answer even the most basic questions. I have administered servers for several years and know what I am doing so when godaddy told me that if I didn't know what I was doing to pay the money or hire someone to administer the server who did needless to say I was to say the least quite angry.

Moral of the story - DO NOT HOST WITH GODADDY!!

This is just another thumbs down for godaddy... I wonder if they still wish to stay in the business of hosting.

I think I have seen more negative reviews about them than positive ones.
They might be giving more importance on domain registration than hosting.

If they hired people who actually are passionate about their job, want to learn and actually provide quality service they would be doing great. But as I've noticed, it is not easy to find this on the same city where the company is located at, most reps are just random people looking for a job which don't really care about but get paid to be there and answer support requests. It's really easy to see it honestly.

I totally agree! I hate the way they keep trying to make me sign up for more services when I'm just trying to change nameservers or some other simple task. I also get sick of all the spam they send me under the guise of super specials, bargains etc. I too hate Go Daddy!

I have moved most of my domains to Omnis.com, they're cheaper, don't spam you and they have a much better (easier to use) control panel. I'm referring only to Omnis domain registration, I know nothing about their hosting.

I used godaddy for 3 months, finally I couldn't take it anymore. Their support is unrealiable, and their restrictions are worse than someone in jail. I feel like I am trapped with them. You only pay for their "name" with godaddy, not their services.

Rule of thumb: Keep domain registrar and hosting company separate.

For protection against unethical hosting providers(when they TOS-kill your account). But also diversifies your risk. If your hosting account gets compromised by a hacker then at least nothing happened to the domain name.

I actually like the domain system there, I have found DNS updates take affect in minutes as you can set your nameservers preregistration so your DNS Servers don't cache the registrar servers when it initially updates. Thus avoiding the 24-48 hour propagation.

I am not sure how ENOM handles it which is what we are now using as our domain registrar due to WHMCS not being compatible for auto registrations with godaddy.

For domains, I think they are great, I found their control panel easy to navigate etc, and I can appreciate the smooth look of it also, support could use some work, but other than that I can't complain.

Over at phpLD we get a pretty good number of complaints about godaddy. The problem we have is they do their mod rewrite different than most hosts, so getting the seo friendly urls always requires an extra tweak. Otherwise, I think they are okay for our users. I personally would never host with them as I have an affinity for cpanel hosting.

Their domain panel is horrible. I bought a name from someone not that long ago and simply changing the contact info was an ordeal, and then that delayed my being able to move it off them for 60 more days. I've done so at the first opportunity.
Local hosting clients where I live nearly all get sucked in by the price, and the fact that it's so heavily promoted as they buy a name. Hard to convince them otherwise without sounding like "they suck, use us". As awful as they are, they know how to market to their "audience". Have to (grudgingly) give them credit for that at least.
