For three days now theVPSguy.com server has been down. After not hearing I had to hurry switch my sites. Any word on the problem?

After three days of no word I had to scramble to move my sites.
    Even the www.thevpsguy.com is down.

  3. #28
Thank God I had my sites backed up on a shared server with a low price. All I had to do was change DNS settings and wait till it propagate.
This sucks when you get no notification of the problem!!

I have had my dedicated server with them down for 7 days now, and not had any support. I have emailed them numerous times!!
Don't walk...run and sign up with a new provider!
I went back to hummingbirdhosting.com (shared) for the meantime...(I kept them as a backup and I'm glad I did)
Hope you were fully backed up! Usually the VPSguy is on MSN. Don't know what happened?!!!

    Can't reach him?

Our datacenters have been beyond horrible with regard to this problem. Somehow, our servers were hacked, and the bootloaders were destroyed. When i asked the DC to take a look at it, they restarted it, and it didn't boot up. They then decided that they would try to "fix" the raid, and they ended up corrupting it. I have the backups of all the VPS's , and an working to get them up. We will be giving one month free to all clients as part of our SLA. This is the last time i will have any of the DC techs touch the servers, me and my partner will handle it personally from now on. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience, and we do expect to lose most of our client base now. Anyway, thanks for your time, this week has been hellish.

Well, our dc has been next to impossible to deal with. For some reason, I can't get them to reinstall the bootloader on the 2 dedicated server customers that were effected by this. The only thing they offered to do was reinstall the os, which would mean data loss. I'm going to the dc on friday to fix the other servers, and i'm trying to get the boot loaders on those servers fixed before then. I am now getting our main VPS node back online(restoring the backup)
EDIT: I'm also pretty sure that one of our clients managed to exploit the openvz kernel, and remove the boot loader, which is what caused this mess. From now on we will be doing nightly automated backups on a secure server in a different DC, so we can have faster disaster recovery. We will also keep spare openvz nodes online, that are not connected to the main cluster, so that it won't be hackable.

it's almost 10 days. and i don't think a good provider should let
his services to be down that long. finding an alternative way for
his clients should be his main priorities even if that takes $$$$.
We will be giving one month free to all clients as part of our SLA.
how can you say this when your downtime is almost half a month.
which everybody else has already paid for. of course you should,
as a matter of fact, there are probably clients of VPS owners who's
demanding at least 2 months of compensation.
i apologize for this. just getting frustrating as not even a
single Advisory email was sent out.

well he tried to up our vps but looks half-baked.
got several email notif of errors.
tried to restart but results show errors.
been trying to get hold of ian on MSN after our talk but failed.
times like this, he should be available most of the time.
just my thought. i am just voicing up also those words from my
    frustrated clients.

ian should be online constantly but he never replies to my emails, and is never online!

10 days is lot, but I hope to get your services fixed. If you've backups, I'd say search for another provider.

We don't have back ups but even so, we might start looking for another provider ASAP

with such kind of customer-oriented service, probably everybody should.
let's wait for him to justify this lapses in quality service.

just to give an update. others who might be waiting, at least, you
would know where you stand at this point.
3 days ago, he discussed and told us that server is up and running.
whm was already accessible; however, "named" is still showing failure.
we did what we had to do within our "powers".
as this is related to cpanel, as advised, he asked us to force-reboot
as the last resort (which of course, we already have done before).
although he is expected to handover the server in good and running
    condition, he did not.
as our tech has no choice but to do force-reboot, we did; as he also insisted.
and all hell broke loose. server went dead and ian was gone again for 3 days.
i sure hope he can explain this to us as well as to those who have
been promised to have the server up and running over the weekend.
    we emailed and no reply.
    further, hyperVM is still down.

He just sent me my login details to my lxadmin server, so I have that, but I am still waiting for our hypervm login details which he said he would send last night!!
Also getting a warning on our server saying something about ssh ports etc?!
I would appreciate it if Ian would reply to emails quicker

Also, if you take a look at thevpsguy.com you will see there is a message there, looks like things are moving at last

Lessons learned....always backup your data, and have a plan to quickly switch provider if needed. Before moving to VPS, I kept my cheap (reliable) shared server hosting account. I was able to switch DNS settings, and was up in 12 hours of the initial outing. Backup, backup, backup!

  20. #45
    thanks for the tip.
lesson learned from bad experience, i guess.
now its' the 19th day of server downtime.
that 1 month free is surely not applicable
    for such BAD service.

  21. #46
    Again, He's *** 15 *** YEARS OLD
Why anyone would want to continue doing "business" with
    this kid is beyond comprehension
    i got it.
well honestly, some 15ers just grow u and mature professionally fast
than others. i guess, there are some exceptions.
    like this thevpsguy service.

Has anybody had any luck with getting Ian to change the nameservers for their domains? I had to move to a different host - the outtage is just taking to long. I got something set up with a different host but the details that Ian gave me to get the domain moving are simply not working. Anybody else have any luck. All help greatly appreciated! K.
