    Netflix or LoveFilm?

I suppose I'm looking more for Brits views because there's big differences between UK and USA Netflix offerings (apparently).

I've read online reviews of both and comparisons but all end up with an 'uncertain result' on which is best. Has anyone used both and can recommend one over the other? Started paying for Netflix now and happy with it but have seen LoveFilms adverts on TV and it looks equally interesting.

So yes, anyone used both and can recommend one over the other?

LF is backed by Amazon which I guess might mean they have a wider library, they also let you browse their library before purchasing.

Edit: Just noticed it has 'Thomas and Friends' too

Yeah but I was also reading that LF is pay per view on top of monthly fee for lots of newer content. I have BT Vision whose on demand service for films is perfectly fine if I wanted to pay per view for newer stuff.

I use NF for mainly TV programmes and the odd film in bed, but that's about it. Based on inclusive content, whose library is stronger?

I have Lovefilm which is great, but if you want to watch a movie released in the past 2 or so years they make you pay extra for it (not just an extra 20p, you're looking at £4 per film). You'll often find films which you probably haven't heard of, but are worth the watch.

If you are a gamer, Lovefilms game rental + movies online is the perfect package.

Both offer free trials so why not give both a go

I signed up with LF the other day and am not that impressed with it. Most of the films are old, and the ones that are fairly new I've already seen.

    I'll try NF next...

I've tried both and cancelled them within a few weeks. Netflix was better for TV shows but the films on both were fairly old and I'd seen most of them before.

They both have free trials so sign up and see which one you prefer.

+1 for NetFlix overall, though the library can be limited.

Netflix. My brother is a LF subscriber and he thought Netflix's online library had more to offer. I think it all comes down to what you want to watch.

Mhmm okay. I'll carry on paying for Netflix for now. I just hope they keep updating their film library, have watched anything that was worth watching to me. Now just making use of the TV Shows. Here's to hoping! Might try LF, but the only games console we have is a Wii (no time or patience for real gaming in this house), so Netflix works better for us. Shall have to try get the Bluray player online and try download Lovefilm and just give it a shot at least.

    Cheers guys!

I've never viewed Netflix for UK, but I'd recommend Netflix.

Netflix is ok, but I still find it unacceptable that The Rock with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage is not available to stream.

I've used Netflix for a while and never paid for it. They allow you to do the first month for free.

I haven't signed up to any of Netflix or Lovefilm services but I rea somewhere about a disute between Universal Pictures and LoveFilm so content post-2009 will not be at LoveFilm's libary.

The dispute has been on-going since 2009 so I don't assume it will be solved soon.

But on the otherside Treznax, Netflix recently had a $9m settlement to pay because of a dispute.

I don't see what that has to do with anything - The $9mil settlement was about NetFlix keeping a log of what users watched 2 years after they left NetFlix.

Nothing relating to being unable to stream the awesomeness of Uni Pics or another major film distributor

I'm a fan of Hulu Plus personally. The only downside to the service is that on top of the monthly fee, there's forced advertising, which is slightly annoying (even when you click NO it's not relevant, they'll still show it to you).

I used Netflix for almost 2 years before cancelling the service. For older & b-rated movies, they're great, though it takes ages for them to get anything that I would really consider to be "new" and worth watching.

I rarely have time to sit and watch a full movie and when I do, I'd rather go to the theater 1-2 times a month and spend a bit more to watch exactly what I want rather than pay less and find nothing to watch.

Netflix interface/design is much better than LoveFilm's one. I think I'd choose Netflix for the interface/design alone.

    Gota toss in Hulu +

I am stopping my Netflix Account as we speak because of the lack of Linux Support. They are using Silverlight for streaming, which has to be one of the worst applications ever. They really need to modernize and move to something like HTML5 Video, WebM or even Flash.

I've trialled both Netflix and LoveFilm on the Xbox 360 and prefer Netflix. The quality is a lot better and there are never any streaming issues.

I opened an account with lovefilm to watch a film which they didn't have but seen it advertised online as if they had. Then I cancelled and noticed they were still taking money from my account 2 months later. Went to my Bank who said it happened a lot. I had to cancel my card and order a new one.
