New Site Owner... trying to find a good host:-)
Hello, I am new here and would like some guidance. I am going to buy a domain name through godaddy probably.... my site is going to be adult content, its going to be a blog site about a adult MMO game.... its a affiliate program were I will receive money when people sign up or download, etc.
So I want to find a host that allows adult content but I have no idea where to start there are so many sites and I don't want to spend too much money.
Free would be best but I don't see that happening since the site will have adult content. I plan to have a lot of viewers but I have no idea how much bandwidth I would need. For instance how many viewers does 50gb allow??
As far as diskspace I don't think I need that much.... I will have banners on each page but most of those will be hosted from the owners domain and I will have a screen shot page(20pics.) Is diskspace used for anything else?
Sorry I am not sure how all this stuff works quite yet...
Thanks for all the help! Please let me know if you need anymore info.
*EDIT* I've been looking at godaddy hosting for $7.99:
150 GB Space | Unlimited Bandwidth
• 500 Email Accounts2
• 25 MySQL Databases (1 GB ea.)
• FREE Ad Credits:
Googleฎ†
I am not sure if this is good but I might go with it unless I can find something better for the same price.Last edited by missakara; 03-03-2011 at 09:12 PM.

First and foremost, welcome to WHT!
I can definitely understand the overwhelming amount of choices available when it comes to a hosting provider, and in your case, a hosting provider that will allow adult content.
I would first compile a list of hosting providers that you are interested in having your website hosted at. A good place to start would be in the 'Web Hosting Offers' section of this forum.
Once you have developed a list, I would explore the question if the provider prohibits adult content. The companies that remain on your list, feel free to contact them directly and ask them questions about the service. Also, feel free to use the search feature to find reviews on the hosting provider that are in consideration.
As for your disk space and bandwidth concerns, pick a plan that you feel will be good for your website, with the ability to upgrade those two features. In most cases, you'll probably be fine with what is being offer, but it never hurts to have the option to upgrade, if you find yourself in need of more resources.
I hope this was of help to you and definitely good luck on your search!

Thanks so much. What are your thoughts on godaddy? I'm sure 150gb storage is more than enough space. I have no idea what the mySQL thing is. Unlimited bandwidth is nice. I've heard some good things about gatorhost... or something like that can't remember the name exactly. I was gonna use 000 webhost.com(dunno why it censored it lol) and pay $5 but it took me to hosting24.com and there was a lot of mixed reviews.... most of the features I see I don't really know what they mean. I just need bandwidth and some space. Nothing fancy. :-)

When a providers name is censored *** then it is usually not a good thing, could be for number of reasons from fake reviews to spamming.
Personally, if you are looking for good quality connections you may want to look outside from GoDaddy, do you really need 150GB diskspace?██ l Dedigeeks Shared Wordpress Dedicated Established 2006

Ohhh I see. I can take it off if I need to. No, I don't think I do, so far though all the prices I've found are around $7-$8 unless I pay for 12months or more. It would be awesome to find free hosting but I know that's unlikely with the adult content.
I've heard good things about hostgator... I'm still looking around. I also want to make sure the site is 100% safe to put all my information on.

Thanks. I checked at godaddy it would be like $2 for the domain, $7 a year for the protected domain name and $8 for the hosting.
1. Cool, but I checked and they don't allow adult content even if you pay.
2. What site is this for?
3. Heard of them before... they said I can have adult content just has to comply with TX, FL and federal law.
4. Checked them already:-) $7.99:

You are only allowed to host legal adult contents on Godaddy.
If you are sure your contents are legal and comply with the US law then you can buy godaddy hosting and have your website running
Or if you are unsure, check the web Hosting Offers here in the WHT and find some good providers ( PM them asking about the adult contents they allow or not)

I'm not sure if GoDaddy allows adult content, but HostGator does allow adult content.

Oh, I would figure they would since everyone uses them and their racy commercials haha... I am trying to find out now....
About the bandwidth... well that sucks. How much should I get then?
Is it the hosting or domain that shows you how much bandwidth you use and what not? I want to make sure I can keep track of all that stuff.

I would highly recommend that you take time and search this forum for reviews about GoDaddy and other hosting providers before deciding to go with any of them.
Bandwidth depends on 2 factors: file size and traffic.
You can start with unlimited hosting provider and see how much bandwidth you will be using. Make sure to review the company's terms of service about adult content and resource usage limitations.
Once you start your website and start receiving traffic, you will be able to monitor your bandwidth in your hosting control panel, cPanel.█ Snoork Hosting - Enterprise Servers | DDoS Protected Network

I see that you have mentioned that you will be getting a lot of viewers. Adult sites tend to receive very large amounts of traffic.
Unlimited hosting provider may not be the best choice for you here. Unlimited hosting providers are designed for low to medium traffic sites and they have CPU and max concurrent connections limit. If your site will be receiving high traffic, you will be limiting the resource usage.
Do you have any specific budget you are aiming for?
For an adult site that is expected to receive lots of traffic I would personally recommend a decent size VPS server, but you would be looking at +30 a month for a VPS. Check the VPS offers section for specials█ Snoork Hosting - Enterprise Servers | DDoS Protected Network

Unlimited Bandwidth
If such things are being offered there are should be several hidden limits and that is good idea to learn more about them during presales conversation with web host.

Not really.... the cheaper the better though hehe. It's not going to be porn or anything just a blog site about a adult MMO so not sure how much traffic it will get. Not sure if it will be updated frequently or not.

As for disk space, you would need to use space on images, html, php, CSS and other kind of files. If you only have 20 images, I would say that a GB is more than enough. You could easily be on 100-200 MB of space with that number of images and things.
Bandwidth depends on how big the total amount of files that are being transferred. So if you have 20 visitors a day visiting an average of 2.5 pages that are an average of 200 KB, that would be around 300 MB a month.
I hope this clarified some things.

Hosting
I used hosting from stablehost recently, quite cheap but great service. They have offers going on and I bought one year hosting for quite a low price.

Also, RailsPlayground is highly recommended. Even though they're focused on Ruby on Rails (a programming language), they have PHP and cPanel and offer everything you need.
They know what they are doing!
I've experienced 1 hour of downtime with them - not more. And that was due to a change I requested.██ Serverfruit - awesome cPanel hosting!

You might want to be more specific when you ask hosts about it; for many hosts things like language, discussions about sex, etc. don't constitute adult content. They are more concerned with photos or illegal content (any sexual content involving children, etc.) One of the terms people use for non-porn but still adult orientated content is "NSFW" or "Not Safe for Work".

Seems like my old post didn't go through. Or it got deleted.
Anyways, it will something like: try to see what the hosting cost/benefits are from the domain company you bought from. Sometimes they offer discounts on their domain holders.
Then I recommended some other companies, but I forget.
1. Hostgator
2. Awarespace.com << Is a highly known free hosting. You can take a look.

Thanks for all the replies.... so far a lot of the sites ONLY say 'unlimited' bandwidth which worries me.... as far as godaddy I think I will use them for just the domain name.
Also, I posted on godaddy forums and they said they do allow adult content as long as it follows all the rules. :-)
This search is getting harder and harder lol.
For web hosting offers forum should I just be looking under shared hosting offers?Last edited by Mike V; 03-07-2011 at 12:35 AM. Reason: Posts merged

That is funny you say that when you offer unmetered disk space and bandwidth yourself. It is a marketing trick with unmetered Or unlimited. I think the sales clerk would think you was weird if you went down to a shop: "I want an external HDD with unlimited disk space."
Yes, that is correct.Last edited by Mike V; 03-07-2011 at 12:35 AM. Reason: Posts merged
