Why's there a forum dedicated to RaQ servers?
Just curious... Why is there a forum dedicated to RaQ servers here on WebHostingTalk?

My best guess is that at the time the raq forum was created (roughly 2001 based on old threads) the boxes were still in use Old technology sometimes takes time to phase out and the machines were still serviceable at the time.
I guess it's not really hurting anything as is but could probably be merged into the general dedicated server section to reduce clutter.Michael G ★ Sharktech - DDOS Protected Servers ★ 20 years in business

I was feeling nostalgic and decided to pop my head in. Man, those Raq3 servers were awesome. 300Mhz of raw power and 128mb of memory with dual 20gb drives. And still were able to run 200 sites. Madness.

Wow. I had no idea what the Colbalt RaQ even meant. That is until I got curious and decided to check this part of the forum out and found this thread.
Interesting.

I've always wondered what this section of the forum is about. Too young to now about it I suppose. Came to the market when cPanel was already around. Interesting indeed.

I remember when the first geforce came out, I got a creative one and it was at least 4 times faster than aything else (I think voodoo 5 was the top back in those days). It went perfectly with my slot1 pentium 2...

Its a pity Sun killed it. Always wondered if they bought Cobalt just to eliminate a compatitor...

In a way, it can be seen as a good thing, if they never bought it, we wouldn't have BlueOnyx: http://www.blueonyx.it/
Same old OS you all remember, but open source, updated and running on CentOS. It's still a self contained environment so pop in the OS CD and it installs the OS and control panel all in one.The Server Centre

I remember my Raq servers. Those were great, simple to setup and get online in a short time. Too bad they're gone, I imagine we would all have Raq 15's by now...

I just took my 3i out of the storage locker.. It was a little persnickity starting-up.. (had to pull the 60GB Maxtore out of it, mount it via USB<-->IDE to another server running UBUNTU, to force e2fsck on it, Yipes! it's been inactive for 4 years? (YEP! hadn't been checked in 1475 days!)) once the partitions passed, I ghosted them to files on the server, then put the drive back into the 3i.. powered it up, the display came up.. sat on booting a little long, then suddenly saw it loading configuring, then..... tardis.home.net 192.168.1.2, (my home network) ARGH! I've forgotten my password!!! Also I needed to reset the network address, as the router I'm using now defaults to ...168.2.1 But, It's nearly indestructible! Slowly looking around for the manuals.. I can guess the OS boot CD images are long history.. Can't find the right flash-ROM version. (would love a service manual if one ever existed?) But, for a macvhine I actually rescued from a Goodwill store, with a quickly failing 2.4GB drive, it ran as a home server for a few years til life kept me from keeping it up & running.
