Question letter of job leaving notice/resignation

    hi all,

as previously mentioned, i've got a new job lined up, and i need to put my notice in asap (the next hour or so!)

Does anyone have a letter they've written recently i can copy/paste/steal?

my boss already knows im leaving, and where im going, but i still obviously have to put my notice in. i was thinking something along the lines of:

please accept this letter as notice of my resignation. i'd like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to work at NTL, and i wish you all the best in the future. In accordance with my contract, i intend to leave in 4 weeks, with my last day being Friday 23rd June
seems a bit 'washy' though so wondered if anyone had any thoughts

    Cheers

That's plenty good enough. (Have you ever read Richard Nixon's resignation letter? - http://www.watergate.info/nixon/resi...n-letter.shtml )

    August 9, 1974

    Dr. Mr Secretary,

I hereby resign the Office of President of the United States.

    Sincerely,
    [Richard Nixon]

I hope you wrote "I", instead of "i".

Then again, Richard Nixon is not exactly the ideal role model whose every action it is recommended to follow.

My last job I was an employee and when I quit I didn't even bother to give a 2 weeks notice. I just left. The reason being they don't give you a 2 weeks courtesy notice when they fire you so why should I? That, and, I didn't like the company very much so I left them scrambling for a replacement.

Advice: It's probably not wise for anyone to do what I did if you're looking for another job where they may call your previous employer.

I would never give a 4 week notice again. I did that with my last "real" job and it was terrible. Two weeks is about right....
