What is the meaning of "Non-authoritative answer" get from nslookup

    Hi,

When I do a nslookup of a domain, the result usually come out with "Non-authoritative answer" follow by a list of nameservers.

What is "Non-authoritative answer" and "Authoritative answer" means?

    Best regards

    sawbuck,

    Thanks for your information.

However, I still have no idea about "Non-authoritative answer" and "Authoritative answer".

Why I only get "Non-authoritative answer" of my domain for the nslookup?

    Best regards

    Hi,
    What is your domain?
Actually, I don't want to use forums to advertise my website. I just want to chat and learn something from others.

    Thanks and best regards

an Authoritative answer would only come an NS which has been configured to be incharge of the domain, while a non Authoritative answer would come from the rest of the NSs in the world. an answer that they recieved after asking somebody else or using their cache and are forwarding it to you, not an answer that they are responsible for.
Its basicly the NS telling you "hey, im not incharge of this domain so the information im giving you is second hand... if anything is wrong, dont shoot the delivery boy"

Authorative means the name server knows about a domain and it's configured to server it.

Non-Authorative means the name server is not yet configure / needs more time to serve the domain.
