    Inherited a fortune. Now what?

We all know those Nigerian scam emails. Well, lets just say one of them is not a scam, and you receive it, and you do inherit a fortune from a person that has no relatives and has randomly picked you

In what direction would your life go from that point?

    - Pay my debts.
    - Buy a 'certified' second hand car to replace the one I have now.
    - Buy a 'reasonable' home at a decent price.
    - Invest the rest.

... then life goes on as normal - minus taxes.

Second best is perfect because there's still that goal to reach for...and less stress because people can't say "Hrmm...THIS is the best?!?".

Cocaine and hookers. God, what a life!

Seriously though, I already have plans for funds of that size as is. "Inheriting" it would simply mean I get to bypass meeting with venture capitalists.

Probably go into real estate with some people I know, I've sat in on a few discussions with friends who are looking to buy a golf course with some partners. I like the fact that you own something physical that is tangible and lets you build equity.

That's obviously after I buy a nice home myself and pay off a large chunk of it if not all, maybe $300k-$400k?

Yep, it's called real property, whereas material things like cars, boats, and airplanes are called personal property, and in most cases depreciate, rather than appreciate. Obviously, there are exceptions, but generally, land and buildings and things are worthy investments, whereas such things as those listed above are not.

I would invest in myself... go get a phd, get some full-time coders for my current business, and start another business. Hire people to operate my businesses.

I would travel a lot in the first 6 months, but I am sure that would get old since I like to work.

And the dream I have for my family is to have an account where any child in the family can go to college for free. This would go down to cousins and maybe even friends, depending on the amount of money I have to invest.

Of course, I am guessing the amount of money we are talking about is in the hudreds of millions.

    Verify person, and funds first.

Open Swiss account and have funds transfered.
Take 4 lump sums of $5M each and place into various annuity accounts.
Take interest from accounts and place in a "shell corp." list myself as chairman and CEO of corp.
Have corp. make loan to me interest free, that doesnt have to be repaid.

Purchase transatlantic hi speed yacht outfitted with state of the art in communication, sat and turbine power via jet drive. Cost $110M

Build another corp. with the cover based on providing corp and executive security. Really does covert operations the government cant do. privately funded as well and staffed by ex-military special ops.

Set trust up for kids, each with $10M payable upon completion of college. No schooling $1M payable upon graduation of HS. Usage monitored.

Setup all to be handed two kids in event of death to both parents. Funds managed and handled by trust.

Never touch inital money, use interest to build upon. inital funds will outlive grandkids and an empire will be built.

I would try to collect one of the largest portfolio of websites that are all generating income.

I would then invest into some futures/options and stock.

I would give 80% of my yearly income to charities that I like such as building churches and maybe even start a couple really nice orphanages.

Basically, I would try to be one of the most charitable persons on earth because as the saying goes, "He who dies with the most toys, still dies"

Having a life changing impact on someone's life is a much better investment than having a huge house and a super nice sports car.

I would definately open a Hospital providing free services to people of countries that cannot affoard to pay medical bills and the living conditions are poor. Yes i know there wont be any returns but everyone lives for themselves and this would give me an opportunity to fullfill my dream of living for others before i die.

But than again i am the most unluckiest person alive so never would even dream about such fortune coming my way, heck i have not even won any lottery or any prizes ever. But what i wrote above is my dream. One day hoping even without inheriting such a fortune i would have enough on me to live my dream.
