you get the option to select currency when sending paypal payment. Regarding receiving payment in US$, I think yes, but you should contact paypal using contact form your paypal account.

RMB not being a fully convertible currency, Paypal in China is not connected to the international Paypal, and Chinese Paypal users cannot send or receive USD. Chinese consumers have however the option to register for an international Paypal account as well, however withdrawal fees are high and this it not yet very popular in China. The most popular payment methods in China are wire transfer and Alipay (the leading local payment processing companies). Alipay doesn't support USD as well.

There are a few that paypal do not accept such as Pakistan (or was it India. I'm not really sure) but there are others in addition to Macao
Quite bizarre since HK is already a part of China now.
That explains why some merchants in China have fees up to 8-10%. Quite ridiculous really.

I can confirm what sinohosting is actually quite accurate. Paypal has a China facing website though no foreign currency is allowed, for the possible reason of compliance with local financial legislation. There are some local payment gateways offering payment options of local and/or foreign currencies but they normally offer services to local merchants for accepting payments from foreign visitors.

For sending payment to China users, try Western Union.

From what I know the only option currently would be to work with a China based agent, who takes the payments on your behalf in RMB and pay you in USD by wire transfer or Paypal.

From the information on PayPal site, they work with the following currencies
Anyway it is worth addressing such question directly to PayPal representatives, they will advise exactly.

Chinese customers can pay you in USD,there is no problem, just use Paypal if you want receive money.
But if you need send money, try other solutions, because Paypal charge USD35.00 withdrawal fee for Chinese users.
If you want send money to a Chinese user, try Western Union. It is a well-known service in China, you can get your money in almost every local post office. If your user is in small city and their post office do not provide Western Union service, they can go to Agricultural Bank of China and get the money.Last edited by 2EZNetwork; 08-05-2009 at 07:19 AM.

I recently saw this article about paying methodes from China. I myself am searching for payment methodes from china too. But it seems paypal is very little if you take a look at alipay.

Alipay is very popular in China. And alipay.com has put out their international version.Said that alipay could receive USD for chinese users. As paypal is the most popular in e-commerce payment method,I am not optimistic about alipay to receive USD from internationals.

I also see you have to earn at least 5000 USD at alipay before the wire transfer it to your account. Your website will also be checked by chinese goverment rules.
