How can we successfully resell game servers?

    Dear WHT,

My team and I are interested in reselling game servers through our hosting company, and I was hoping someone could shed some light as to how to start? We've decided to go with GameCP as our game server management control panel, but what we can't figure out is how to manage the billing aspect(s).

Does anyone know of any good software that will allow us to easily sell game servers, and allow the client to select what type of game, how many slots, etc.. and then invoice them?

If need be, we can code a custom order form, but we were hoping that wasn't necessary.

    Thanks,
    Chris`

You can use WHMCS, ClientExec, Modernbill and I think there is a few more. A simple google search will come up with tons of pages of websites containing what you are in search of.

I personally think WHMCS would be your best choice. It also has direct compatibility with the TCAdmin control panel along with many other modules and APIs.

Pretty much sums it up but wouldn't use anything besides those 3.

You might want to have a look at the bundled offerings at the tcadmin site.

    GameCP isnt recommended.

I would suggest Gamecreate or cPanel's Game Management.

WHMCS if the best way to go though

Depending on how many servers your going to sell, and if you need to keep track of hardware, IP address, Log on information I would recommend Ubersmith. I have messed with WHMCS and it isn't bad but for a few more bucks you can get Ubersmith and there support is the best i have seen. They helped me setup everything when i wasn't even purchasing the DE version.

Thats is what a game panel is for. Ubersmith would be terrible for a gsp.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using WHMCS for a gaming server. You'd probably just need to manually setup accounts rather than have them generated automatically, like you can with cPanel because I don't think WHMCS is compatible with GameCP, but I'm not positive. That'd be something you'd need to confirm with WHMCS.

WHMCS + TCAdmin can be used for auto setups.

You need to add something called expertise, passion or another unique feature.
If you just resell the same server, nothing extra, rely heavily on your provider, why wouldn't the client go directly to this provider.

Figure out what makes your company better.

In my opinion its not worth it to resell game servers.

Basically you end up with a higher price and an extra level of complication between your customers and the person fixing the problem. You are probably better off installing your own control panel and setting up your own dedicated box if this is what you're after.

Also, if you're looking to profit on servers because you have some awesome connection of friends who want to buy a gizzilion game servers, you might try some kind of cash back referral program.
