    Exclamation Servers Needed For Colocation!

I'm looking to purchase a few servers to co-locate in a near by data facility.

I need to know where I can buy some powerful machines, I have a pretty large budget so money really isn't by biggest issue!

    Recommendations are appreciated

    Regards

Dell.com if you have the money, IBM.com would do too.

I would suggest IBM over Dell. Also if you get Dell and you are doing Raid, opt out of getting the raid card on board, and go purchase a good quality PCI raid card, the Perc 3/DI are fairly poor quality, especially in use with Redhat and the aacraid driver.

Other than that minor issue, the Dells are solid machines, IBM and Compaqs run in the same league though.

Not to be dense, but, why would you ever buy a Dell or IBM server?

They are horrendously overpriced and you have no control over which components they use (probably whatever they can get cheapest).

We have Dell, IBM, and Sun servers. Yes they are expensive but we only get a 1% failure rate a year, and a tech / part from the company is onsite within 4 hours.

Besides B.Y.O. isn't much of an option above 2 CPUs.

Service levels. 2 hour on site parts replacement is a wonderful thing to have.

I've never had or used a racklogic.com server, they look very nice, but I'd be worried about a 2.4 ghz dual xeon with only a 200 watt power supply.

Dell all the way! Haven't had any bad experience with them yet and I've been using machines from dell for the last 5 years.

We use 250W PSU for the dual xeons. Which works just fine

I prefer to build my own servers, but if you were to buy a server, the price depends on the service not really the parts. Dell and IBM do not of the best parts in them, but both are onsite within hours replacing the part. I have had experience with both Dell and IBM service. IBM is usually out faster, and hour in my area. So you have to decide what you want? Good Service or Good parts. The servers I have built for myself of course have the best components I could find, and I haven't had to replace but on part in several years. With Dell though I had a server, that we replaced HD, PSU, and NIC all within a year.

Yes I have had a couple, didn't have a lot of problems with them, more with Dell, but both have timely service. Like I said they will be on site with in hours.

I would get IBM, I think it cost a little more, but I get tons better service from IBM.

I have several models, don't know the exact model numbers at this moment. If, I don't build my next one I am looking at getting the eServer 325. Its AMD based, and I am an AMD man at heart.

I recommend www.Rackmountsetc.com high end and budget servers. You should also look into www.supermicro.com

I can second that recommendation for Rackmounts, Etc.

They use a lot of quality Supermicro parts too, so I guess I can second that recomnendation as well
