    problems with my hosting company

    my hosting company does not res[pond to us at all
    we have an account on a shared server and we have no control panel so we have to e-mail them everytime we need something
    we want them to redirect e-mails to our new mail server but they never answer our e-mail. we already paid for a year so we would rather not switch for now. so how can redirect e-mail to our new mail server if he is not responding and we are on a shared server?
    can we point the DNS server to our mail server server and redirect
    http to our hosting company server?
    if so how?

    Are you sure the e-mail address is valid? Is there more than one contact e-mail on the site?

    How long have you tried contacting them?

    Have you tried telephoning, or even a letter in the post to inquire as to why your e-mails are not being answered?

    If you still can't get hold of them after all that, I'd consider yourself burned.

    are you emailing them using a email account on the server? Sometimes the emails get lost in the server when both accounts are on the same server. (don't know if this is the situation or not)

    Maybe try emailing them from a off server account, maybe they would get it.

    and secondly send them an annonymous presales type email and see if they answer that.

    i'm sending the e-mail through outlook so i know the e-mail and he did respond to me before. i think he is a middle man for webhostingprovider.com and he no longer care.

    my main question if there is away around him?

    can we point the DNS server to our mail server server and redirect
    http to our hosting company server?

    I know this doesn't sound good. You have three options here :-

    a) Cut your losses and move on to a more reliable host or

    b) If your new mail servers has a different domain name then
    just modify all the email links on your website to the new one or

    c) Use an external Name Server service and repoint all your sites A, MX and PTR records and then modify your Domain Name Server entries of your domain name to the new name servers.

    Assuming you run the DNS servers for the domain, simply change the MX records to your new mailserver.
