    Does Ping Results Matter ?

    I am in the midst of selecting a Reseller's account.

    The following are the PING results of the 2 companies short listed.

    Pinging xxx.com [12.25.237.51] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from xxx: bytes=32 time=263ms TTL=51
    Reply from xxx: bytes=32 time=263ms TTL=51
    Reply from xxx: bytes=32 time=262ms TTL=51
    Reply from xxx: bytes=32 time=263ms TTL=51

    Ping statistics for 12.25.237.51:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 262ms, Maximum = 263ms, Average = 262ms

    Pinging xxx.com [64.38.24.198] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from xxx: bytes=32 time=279ms TTL=54
    Reply from xxx: bytes=32 time=277ms TTL=54
    Reply from xxx: bytes=32 time=277ms TTL=54
    Reply from xxx: bytes=32 time=279ms TTL=54

    Ping statistics for 64.38.24.198:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 277ms, Maximum = 279ms, Average = 278ms

    Is the PING results really that important?
    In terms of pricing, the 2nd company offers much better deals

    Pings mean very little for regular websites.

    The difference between pings in this case is negligible anyway.

    What is the distance between you and the hosts' servers?

    Just in general. Obviously you want to keep the servers as close to you as possible for faster load times. You have to take your visitors' location into account as well.

    For servering normal websites those pings times are fine and nothing to worry about at all

    a2b2,

    What exactly do you mean by 'normal' websites?

    Thank you.

    Those results look normal for me. Do you think all your customers will be from Asia itself?

    As said above, it is better to keep the servers as close as you, but you have to consider your clients too. If you have clients all over the world, I would suggest a server in US will be a better option.

    That would depend on which website is that.Certain sites are meant for international traffic, some are a mixture of both.

    Yes, the 2 companies mentioned in my initial post is located in USA.

    So basically the difference of 10-20 ms wont make much of a difference?

    No, it won't, at least not one that can be easily perceived by visitors/humans.
