    Do you trust web hosts..

that allow porn, yet their servers are based in the US?

I've noticed a lot cheaper servers in the US that allow porn, but isn't that illegal?

It's legal to host porn, as long as it doesn't violate any laws (bestiality, child porn, etc.)

hosting porn web sites is not prestigeous at all... I belive. But you know that there are millions of people in America who are addicted consumers of porn industry. If a web host is real business it must provide realiable service to porn web sites as well.

The "no adult material" clause in most hosting TOS is a holdover from the old days when bandwidth was expensive, rather than an issue of "morality." The ban was strictly a financial decision. Back in the day, one porn site could easily eat up all your bandwidth, which cost mucho greenbacks to replace. Stick a "no adult material" line into the TOS and you are justified in shutting those down when they start to cost you money.

Bandwidth is not really an issue anymore, so while a lot of hosts still retain those dusty old adult material bans in their TOS, they look the other way. Morality never enters into the picture now and it really never did in the early days.

You know, unless you run one of those hosting sites with that stick figure fish on it. Then you probably claim it is a morality issue. I don't believe you, but you can claim it. Looks good to a certain crowd, I suppose.

Also, sometimes it isn't necessarily just a financial or morality issue, sometimes the credit card processor of the host doesn't allow it. For example, if you look at 2Checkout.com, they do not allow you to sell porn access or subscriptions. I'm not sure how they would find it, besides checking every site you host, but any host using them as a payment processor would have to abide by their rules.

wouldn't you using up all of your bandwidth benefit your host? that would mean, you would need to buy more or upgrade your plan.

I was speaking as a host. You are the host. You get a customer running a porn site. Customer uses a gigaton of bandwidth. You pay bill.

That was in ye olden days. Again, it isn't really an issue anymore.

From the perspective of a host:

A customer that buys 3000 GB of bandwidth but only uses 300GB = good customer.

A customer that buys unmetered bandwidth and uses 15GB = not so good customer.

It's easy to see why hosts would rather people pay for stuff they don't use.

It is completely legit to allow pornographic material on servers. However, I would never allow it if I owned a company.

I wouldn't mind doing it, however I think there are just too many risks involved. I.e What happens if the models aren't old enough? What happens if people sneak child pictures on etc

Don't think it's risk worth taking for £5 per month
