cheap colocation?
hello. i am trying to find a cheap place to colocate a 1u server, its a old compaq proliant dl360 g2 and all i need is like 6 ips (turning it into a vps server running 3 vpss) and like 100 gb of bandwith a month, the kicer is though it says it needs 2 amp input on the power supply, i wouldnt mind having two network drops so that i can run my ilo port so i can do remote reboots but i think to start out with i will just go with one network drop. anyone have any thoughts of a cheap place i could use? i found swift water telecom but i have been trying for 3 days to get ahold of anyone there and they dont seem to answer there phone or email and i dont realy want to go with a company i cant ever get ahold of someone if something comes up but that price would be purfect sence i currently only have 50 bucks to use to shipp it off and pay for my first month.

Check out the colo section there are plenty of good providers. You should also do a search and just see what others have to say about those companies. Also you can usually add things like extra power drops and network drops for small fees.

For your price range definitely Joe's or WholesaleInternet which are in the same Oak Tower building in KC would be your best bet.

Consider GoRACK (http://www.gorack.net/) as well. They're very affordable. I use them for several of my servers.

The best place for AMP hungry servers was FDC because they didn't meeter them, unfortunately they are now full.

Not sure if you'll find a hosting provider in this price range especially with 2AMP/110V requirements, at least a quality one.

Fairly sure they would have got more power for somewhere, most likely space.

Yeh, but normally a DC will plan ahead and ensure that they run out of space before power as its more profitable.

Finding the right balance between power, space and profitability is the common theme among data center's. Poor power management and you are left with unusable space; too little space and your growth is limited. It's a constant balancing act.
