    Godaddy Support

    Hi,
I want to know that godaddy support is very lame i had 2 sites hosted on their servers. I had issue with both of them One got hacked the domain was recovered but we lost the data. We leave tons of msgs on support but no response, finally we had to call from pakistan to US to get hold of them. Has anyone faced such problems

    YES.
Their support is horrible. I will never host another website with them again. I still register my domains through them, I've never had any issues in the domain department, but I've never had to ask for help on those.. the domain stuff is pretty straightforward.

    Here's a review I posted a while back: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=603268

I have a reseller with them and have a skype username setup to forward over to them so if you wish you can use skype to call them the username is backycorp when you are at the prompts enter option 1 for gohost.org sales & tech support. Maybe this will help in not making you pay international long distance charges.

GoDaddy has a reputation of providing a very low level of support - run a search and read more about it if you wish at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php

A general thought here to share is that use domain registrars for domain registration purposes. There are so many specialised hosting providers out there to host your sites. Godaddy is a very reputed domain registrar but there hosting service may not have that excellence. The reason is simple hosting is not their main business. Sorry to hear your bad experiences. Also choose your host carefully; do your own intense research before you sign up with any.

I never had hosting with them but I have quite a few domains with them - when I first got my domain from them a few years ago, I needed help getting around their system, and it wasn't overly important so I emailed them and it took them 2-3 days to get back to me if I remember correctly

You are better off googling your question, plenty of tutorials about godaddy stuff on the web

Yeap, the support of GoDaddy is very slow, atleast you have to wait for 24hrs for ticket reply.

    They are mainly domain providers.

I've had trouble with them in the past too. From my own experience, and what I see at webhostingtalk so often, I'd for sure never use them for hosting, but if you just need a domain, they should be fine.

To those who continue to erroneously portray Godaddy as a new comer to hosting, here is proof that GD has been hosting web sites since at least 1999:
    http://web.archive.org/web/200008150...dy.com/gdshop/

They have testified as hosting expert in Congress, an early adopter of Windows 2008, rolled out Exchange hosting last year, has recently become a partner in Microsoft's BizSpark programm

Godaddy hosts 2.5 million active sites (and about 30 million parked domains). I am not sure exactly where the "GD is a registrar and not really a web hosting company" statements that continue to pop up around here comes from. Taking things into perspective, if things were as terrible for those 2.5 million sites as the posters say, then certainly we would see this board fill up with GD rants every day

While their frontline support team is not populated by network and server administrators, they do adequately support their own products. Indeed, if your support requires deeper knowledge or knowledge of 3rd party products you may be left frustrated unless the rep you get happens to have the knowledge.

Both the OP and a responder (pointing to the 2-year old review as supporting evidence) had unusual support requests. It helps to have gone through a reseller when confronted with cases like this.

Personally I cannot believe the OP had absolutely no responses after "tons of requests." There is always an autoresponder. And neither reviewer shared with us their site name.

I suspect you're referring to me. I gave my hosted site to the mods in my original topic, just as they requested.

Are you trying to say a "2 year old review" is irrelevant? I don't think so. Seems to be that they haven't changed one bit.

And what was so unusual about my request? One of my main gripes with them is that they don't look after their servers and stop selling to people that abuse the resources. How many times can one complain about lag to them, then be told to run a cmd ...and for the slowness to mysteriously disappear shortly thereafter - only to start up again later in the day?

And not to mention the issues with sending mail. It is incredibly frustrating to have your emails filtered just because of who your host is. I've had ISP's actually respond to my removal reports and say "Godaddy has to do this, there's nothing you can do to get this IP removed from our blacklist"
Again, there's nothing unusual about expecting to be able to have regular emails sent around the web..

None of what you just said is in your orignal post, which is what I was referring to, of course. Changing the subject is just confusing the issue.

That's an uninformed and empty opinion.

GD has been hosting web sites since at least 1999:

    Web Archive

They have always been a web host.

They have testified as hosting expert in Congress, an early adopter of Windows 2008, rolled out Exchange hosting last year, has recently become a partner in Microsoft's BizSpark program.

I am not sure exactly where the "GD is a registrar and not really a web hosting company" statements that continue to pop up around here comes from. Where is the rule that states if you are a registrar you can't do hosting?

You must work there. Just because they've been hosting for 8 years doesn't mean they are good.

All I'm saying is stick to domains if you want to use Godaddy, if you want you can also read reviews about godaddy and read the same stuff.

And your disparaging remarks are because they compete with you....That makes the most sense in light of the facts

Either what I said is true or not -- no matter who is reselling what.

Check the web archives....It appears GD was a web host prior to becoming a registrar (which they really aren't -- Wild West Domains is the registrar)

We're not saying Godaddy isn't in the hosting business, we're saying they suck at it.

Many hosting companies here are quick to mention that registrars are not good hosting companies. Of course, it is in their best interest to because they can derive business from domain customers who buy their hosting elsewhere.

This is often a myth. I cannot comment on Godaddy as I haven't used their hosting services, but many registrars offer competent hosting services too.

The argument that hosting is not a core product may be valid for some but you certainly cannot tar everyone with the same brush. For us, and no names for now as I am not looking to self promote, we have a team almost the same size as our domain team to run our hosting operations, a team of at least 20 people. I imagine Godaddy has the same.

Probably the main reason more hosts are not registrars is the difficulty and cost of becoming ICANN accredited. I bet if all it took is filling out a form all these critics would be changing their tune

Actually it's more of that most registrars that provide hosting provide a lower quality of support than hosts that are just hosts. Of course your experiences may be different where some people say a host is horrible and some say they are great.

It depends on what your needs are and how well the host meets them. If you know what you're doing when it comes to hosting then maybe GoDaddy would be great but if you really need some hand-holding then I wouldn't suggest it (if not only for the long lead times on support tickets on average).

At any rate, this thread isn't really going anywhere...

I have already agreed to as much earlier. The subject changed to actual hosting and hosting platform. And of course, there are plenty of hosts that do nothing but host and have terrible support. This board is full of such threads.

HUH? I just re-read that topic and it's -all- there. It's a very lengthy review, did you even read it?

I have to ask, since you resell their services - what does this topic have to do with you or even your company? You clearly are taking these negative opinions as a hit against you or your company, or you wouldn't be sticking up for godaddy.

I assume you have dedicated boxes from them and you do your own support. This topic isn't about their network capabilities and any of that stuff. It's about their -support-. My review was about their -support- from my experience as a shared hosting customer.

Technically, as you are a reseller of theirs, you are sticking up for your competitor.

I believe, they are just reselling Godaddy's plans as a 'Reseller' since their website is redirecting to securepay.net.
