This is not an offer! Very cheap servers?

We contemplating getting an extremely low end product added to our line (15 Minute Servers). Something along the lines of a p3-1Ghz with 256 megs of RAM, and 20 GB hard drive.

Is this even worthwhile? Is there even a demand for this?

Yes there is always demand for lower end machines, as long as the price reflects this.

When you offer budget servers like that you get flooded with orders, many from people who have no business trying to run any server let alone an unmanaged one. Then your Techs will get overwhelmed by support requests and the rest of your clients will start to suffer. Let's not even get into the likelihood of the negative effects on your Network.

It happens over and over again, you can read literally hundreds of posts here that are related to the side affects from providers who made this exact type of offer. I strongly suggest you avoid it, NAC has a decent reputation right now. Why run the risks of adversely affecting it?

    Is something like:

    Compaq Deskpro ENC PIII800
    128MB RAM
    10.0GB HDD

    too low end?

What, in regards to processor, ram, and hard drive, is considered too low end?

128 maybe alittle too low. But if the price is right people will buy it.

Why don't you post the bandwidth and the price you were thinking of charging.

Can get a better answer then.

If the price was good, and you offered FreeBSD as an option, then I would certainly consider a box for secondary DNS and possibly for monitoring off-site servers.

Looking for a price target of about $50/month, with a $50/setup. GB included would be lower, perhaps 250 to 300.

Yes, that would be quite popular.

As simonhouse says..popular for DNS and some someone who wants to host a few websites for him and his friends.

I think low end servers sell fast on the offers forum
