Lightbulb The future is now... grow an arm in your bathtub...

Lose an arm learning to use a chainsaw? No problem... they are learning to grow them as well as the ear growing out of this mouse's back.

Always wanted a flying car? They are taking orders and they aren't much more expensive than a Lamborgini and twice as fast. Or how about a robot butler that can escort your daughter to the prom... Terminator is here:

My buddy Sam can rip apart a radio and a cordless phone and make a tracking device to follow your car around the city. I asked him if he would ever get one of these things and he said no way. It's not that the Toyota Firmware would be a problem but a) it would probably be a Microsoft OS (he won't put his life in those hands...would you?) and b) just because the firmware was considered 'safe' around humans, there would soon be hacker robot eprom burners out there as well as compiled (exe) code on Kazaa that you never knew if it was going to 'kick off' in 4 years on a DoS/Terminator attack on City Hall or something else.

Would you own a robot and sleep at night?

    Freaaaky man....

And it looks like we will have a Star-Trek style TELEPORTER in the next hundred or two hundred years, which would take all the fun out of sailing someplace the old fashioned way and really put a dent in AlQeada's current terrorist methodology but make sending a nosey mother-in-law back to Chicago (or to the moon) a snap...

    picture this:

you are in bed with your wife's best friend. the teleporter in your bedroom is being pinged by your wife's work...the cue she is going to be home within 30 seconds as the machines warm up and calculate the atomic grid of your wife. quickly your lover jumps into the teleporter, which has already cached her atomic grid (less a few extra atoms you've recently implanted) and you try to send her back to her pad...but OOOOPS...too late and she gets tangled up with your incoming wife's datastream and they come falling out of the teleporter as one very sexy and very pissed off individual, er, individuals, uh...well...

...time for a scotch and make it a double...

    1. I took a lot of acid in high school (quit drugs right after college) so I read a lot...looking for lost brain cells.

    2. Unlike many web-heads, I still like paper products, like books.
When you live on a boat at anchor and run out of TP, a magazine you have already read can be a very handy item, depending on the quality of the ink they used and the gloss...you want cheap, no gloss mags with good, solid, never runs ink...

    3. my sister says I have 'pluto' in my sign (she did astrology charts in college) so I am always looking towards the future...way...way...down the line and am pretty good at predicting trends. that same mag article/issue had a feature about the future of terrorism by another guy who probably dropped a lot of acid as a teen. warning: do not try that at home!

    4. there is a raging debate here somewhere about outsourcing and I was looking up future trends and liked the picture of meg ryan all drunk and smiley on the cover of the mag so I picked it up.
