    Cpanel for Windows

Has anyone else notice it has been in development for a number of years now? I remember seeing about a year ago "90%" complete, why dont they just say "Not yet supported" or something similar.

Care to clarify? It's completely independant, not ported, nothing of that sort. a complete rewrite for Windows. Very anxious to get it out

Will the migration from Linux to Windows be as simple as from a cPanel server to another?

oddly enough I just sent them a sales email yesterday asking about windows too and they said it is indeed in "active development" just no dates can be set yet.

I am curious when it does come out how many people will switch to it. I believe I will be on that bandwagon

I can not give any solid dates, however, I hope to see it released 'soon'. And by soon, I mean before I watch the kickoff of the 2006 NFL season.

I dont think that cPanel will be anywhere near as stable on Windows as it is on Linux.. the software was developed in and for a Unix environment, so modding it to run on another OS wont produce good results.

Did you even read nick's responses? It is not being modded to work from a current version to windows, it is a complete rewrite.

Feel free to view the statement of it being completely independant of the current control panel as we know it. Hence, one of the reasons it is taking such a long time to be developed. If they wanted to release something with bugs the company name would be Microsoft...

I'd suggest wikipedia, but it's currently down..let's just say it'll still be pretty hot in Houston when we finally celebrate it being released.

(That's kinda unfair, it's always pretty hot in houston)

I've never used cpanel but I've heard it has lots of exploits, that is as big a concern for me as stablitiy

Personally I won't go near it. I did that with Plesk 6.5 and learned the hardway to avoid any and all first release Control Panels in a production enviroment.

Besides that I already had to make the business decision on which Control Panel to use. Unfortunately cPanel is "EXTREMELY" late to market and most of the Windows Hosting industry has already made this decision.

There is indeed a cost associated with not being the first into the market, however, as you said, nobody wants to use a control panel that's in it's first release in a production enviorment. Proper testing, and trying not to rush a product out will pay off in the end.

I would urge you to hold your hesitations until you actually get to see the product

Towards any product there will be many naysayers. cPanel is very secure and stable, as I think anyone who uses it on a daily basis would testify to now.

And I will still avoid it, if I decide to use it, until at least the third, or later, production release.

No matter how well you beta test, RC Test, or more you still will end up with bugs, some of which can be major, especially on windows, in the first and second Production release.
