    Vegas accommodation

Since accommodation has come up a few times recently, let's start a thread for current accommodation info for those who haven't booked yet.

Some things to know before you choose a hotel:

    - The Mirage, where the conference is, is on the Strip. Several hotels are within walking distance, as you can see on this map. As the hotels are quite large, they are further apart than they may appear to be.

    - Several companies run shuttle buses from the airport to the hotels on the Strip and in other areas.

    - Staying at the hotel where the conference is has advantages, as Madrooster Tony pointed out in this post.

    - The conference rate for The Mirage ends June 16.

    - The minimum age to sign in at most or (maybe) all hotels in Vegas is 21 years.

    - Some hotels may offer discounts they don't advertise, such as discounts for AAA members.

    - You can find Vegas hotel reviews here.

I can't make any recommendations because I've never been there. But for the budget-minded, here are a few hotels in the area that cost less than The Mirage. Note that tomorrow's prices may be different; I've already seen some of them change.

    - Treasure Island (next door) currently shows $99/night. Actually it shows $119 for one night, but if you go to Check Rates from their Accommodations page, it's $99/night for all 3 nights.

    - Harrah's (across the street) currently has prices $100 and under a night.

    - Imperial Palace (across the street) currently charges $66/night.

Prices are based on single occupancy. Some but not all hotels have wireless Internet access.

An option for those who are under 21 and have student ID is to stay at a hostel. Both Vegas hostels are in a less-than-desirable area of town, but they're cheap, and (AFAIK) you don't have to be 21 to book at one of them. You do, however, need proof of being from another country, or if you're American, have student ID.

    Any more accommodation information?

Sign up for the newsletters or check fatwallet for deals and codes. Some codes will give better price and others will include options. Remember if you already booked your room and you see a better rate call the hotel and have them match it.

If Inet isn't paying for your rooms at least for the 3 days of the conference I would seriously spank them (I'm here to help )

I've heard great things about the Mirage and also the networking factor plays an important role for me, so we're definitely staying at the Mirage.

Age restrictions have been mentioned several times as most LV hotels require a 21 or older to check in. One hotel that does offer 18+ is The Riveria:

    https://safe.rivierahotel.com/cgi-bi...60):;RNETSP3;?

I personally chose TI (Treasure Island) for myself. They are currently running a special for a free upgrade to a Strip View room, free welcome cocktail, $15 lunch or dinner food/beverage credit and $20 in free play. Sun & Mon are $99, Tues is $119. Total for the 3 nights is $345.53 tax included. $107.91 deposit. (this special is called "Enticing Summer Promo" if you are trying to find it on their site) www.treasureisland.com

You do need to be 21+ for TI.

Does anyone know the wireless internet situation for the Mirage - either conference facilities (which I know were sponsored last year) - or, and more importantly - in the rooms? I couldn't find anything in a quick excursion round their website...

    cheers

The Mirage has in room high speed wireless internet available for $11.00 a day. There will be wireless internet available in the conference area. We have set up a cafe area also for you to be able to sit down and have wireless internet for free. This will be available throughout confernce hours in Event Center B.

Please note that I've stayed at the Venetian twice and the Mandalay Bay once. I found both hotels nice (Venetian especially, but pricey).

BUT, I've found their "high speed" internet access anything but. Matter of fact, could not even get it to work at all at he Venetian last time I was there and the desk staff were of no help (was supposed to be a provided lan cable..they were clueless about what that was..sigh).

We have worked on this issue and will have wireless available in the convention center area. This was very much stressed to the AV people and how much wireless we will be using. If there is a problem with it at anytime while you are at HostingCon, please contact one of our staff and we will address it.
Looking forward to meeting you all in Vegas !!

For those flying from Canada who haven't booked their flights or hotels yet, expedia.ca currently has a Vegas sale:

    Three-star hotels from C$35, flight + 3 nights’ hotel from C$549
The sale prices might not apply for all dates (not sure about this), and I don't know if you can get the hotel specials without the flights.
