quick question
i been using ipb 1.3 for quite some time now on my site, (24-7GT.com)
it's been pretty much recoded... i re did pretty much everything on it..
so it's basically liek i used it just to teach myself php, bcz i did..
is there anway i can now use it for my own forum system? and sell for $ ( i think that's illegal) but could i make my own forum software and just let people download it publicly?
lol
thanks
im french srry for engli0

No, derivative works do not allow you to bypass copyright. The original code still belongs to the authors who wrote it. So even if you wrote say 80%, that 20% would still belong to the respective owners and you would need permission to sell it.

I think everyone is understanding it quite well; you recoded it, but not for 100% which means you do not own 100% of the code, which simply means you can not sell or put it up for public download without consent of the original author(s).
What you CAN do; is sell your product as a Add-on to the original code; which means the user need to purchase the original software and then use your add-on software.
In any case you are here at the wrong place to ask; you should contact the original authors.0

You can use it without penalty.
Not really, but you'll just keep asking until someone gives you the answer you want to hear, right?0

I believe that IPB 1.3 was the free version of IPB back in the days so just letting people download it should be fine.

I agree with Rageki...that was one of the earlier versions that they gave away for free HOWEVER...I wouldnt go distributing it as even ythough u re-coded it the script has alot of security holes.

if software is distributed for free by the author this does NOT mean you can just change and distribute the software, it depends on the license.

12+ years -same website , new server [SSD Inside] providing shared/reseller hosting only !
These things we do not provide/offer : Unlimited Storage ! Unlimited Bandwidth ! But Why? Cause, we were unable to put such a large number on our pages, it just would not fit.
So check out the numbers that actually fit >> << the page as well as your budget too !0

Rofl i know the facts, you guys ovbliviously dont know nothing
If i used ipb 1.3 (FREE FORUM SOFTWARE)
And i REWROTE IT. meaning I REWROTE THE CODE.. i shouldnt even made this topic, just shows how stupid you guys are, saying this.
If i rewrote the code it's obliviously my code i could do wat the heck i want to do with it. It has no ipb 1.3 code in there and im sure there's no law saying i cant look @ coding and learn from it and right my own right? LOL
wow.. sad0

Why copy someone else's code. Create your own.
