Jeez I haven't done this in a long time. I'm looking for a host!
Hi everyone,
I'm currently hosting a website on a windows server (my own one), but for reasons that are boring to go into I'm looking for a new home for this website.
Its actually a forum that will see a little bit of activity, it is for beta testers to report back on a program that is being developed by me.
It may see a little bit of traffic because new updates will be downloaded from there by the beta testers. I'm looking at 20-30 beta testers downloading a 2-4mb file every 3-4 times a month. So this would be a maximum monthly bandwidth of 5GB, plus probably about 100mb disk space should cover it.
Now I have been searching about and there are even more hosts about than when I was a host myself.
Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks
Leigh

Hello Leigh, There are a few reliable Windows Hosts around.
Are you still after a Windows Host as I cannot see it stated above, though you say you are on a Windows Host I am not sure if you wish to move over to Linux or stay Windows.
For what you are after, this seems good and you could get a great host for those specifications. In this case an overseller could work for you, though I do tend to stick away from them just for the convenience of no problems.██ l Dedigeeks • Shared • Wordpress • Dedicated • Established 2006

Hi JetWash,
Sorry I should have been more specific. The actual host I'm using is myself (as its my windows server). The windows server it is running on is a production server, and to ensure that this site will be safe if I do something on the Windows server I shouldn't I need to put it somewhere else.
I'll probably most consider Linux, as the program under development is a windows application so web technologies are unimportant. I probably am also swaying towards Linux because of PHP, there are so many better free forums out there for PHP than there are for ASP.
Thanks
Leigh

Hi Leigh,
If you consider to go with a linux hosting provider, you should probably know that you will not have asp available. There are thousands of Linux shared hosting providers that will meet your requirements and provide you with a good environment for your tests. The offers section of this forum is a great way to start your search.

Are you looking at a specific location? IE: Are your beta testers located around a centralized location?
What you should do is grab a short list of hosts and send over some pre-sales questions regarding their network, location, or any other features you may be interested in.██ eLief - Where your business matters.

Yes I had a look, about as useful as the last time I checked (i.e. not very). I'll give it another look, just thought there may be a few people who would be able to suggest a reasonably priced web host who has a good reputation.
It's been so long since I was upto date with the hosting names, that I'm sure many have fallen.
Thanks

Ok, just in case anyone reads this and has similiar hosting packages.
If you advertise either in your post in the offers forum, or listed in the packages on your website as say $2.99 / month. And then go to your billing section and find that the only type of payment for this hosting package is a year or more then please stop!.
Do us all a favor and make it clearer before we click on the order button.
Thank You!

well yes I do actually. All the hosts I knew to be good are still here.
But as I'm in a position to be actively seeking a web hosting account (something I haven't done for a long long time), I thought I would see who the new kids on the block were.
I mean I hate being old fashioned and just going with what I already know
Good to see people still giving the same answers to the same question that gets answered 100,000 times everyday on this forum. "Can anyone recommend a host?".
