Hosted Microsoft Office?
Do any providers offer a hosted Microsoft Office?
e.g. A Windows Remote Desktop session with Office available, or similar?
Looking for an online Microsoft Word. Google Docs does not format things correctly enough of the time. :-/

Try Zoho Writer. It can open Microsoft Word documents.
Go to writer.zoho.com and watch the screenshots tour.

Mike is referring to an online/remote version of Microsoft Office.
This is done to remove the necessity of installing software, and making it possible to access documents anywhere online.Victor Lugo

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am aware of OpenOffice and other options, but so far *none* have ever fully preserved Microsoft Word formatting.
I really want a hosted Microsoft Word, not a clone. *shrug*

You could build your own with citrix and a server...
If not, I'm not sure if there are citrix hosters out here... you may want to pursue that avenue... let us know what you find....Windows 10 to Linux and Mac OSX: I'm PARSECs better than you. Eat my dust!!!

I could not edit my post for some reason...
Anyway, I wanted to add that I've been using this for about four months and it is great... much faster and better than remote desktop. Although, I'd have to admit I've not tried remote desktop in a very long time.
Anyway, the best part is it runs on a server which is also backed up so you don't have to worry about your data...
I'm thinking that Microsoft won't launch an online word until next year... at least that is what I've read someplace... can't remember where... think it will be launched along side the next office...Windows 10 to Linux and Mac OSX: I'm PARSECs better than you. Eat my dust!!!

I suppose any SPLA licensee could do this - i.e., terminal server in application mode. It'd be fairly expensive I'd think.
Terminal Services in Windows 2008 is quite nice - well, catching up to where Citrix has been for years anyway - and you can publish applications hosted in TS to the web and run them seamlessly on your desktop (again, as you've been able to do in Citrix for years).
As hekwu indicated, many consider Citrix's ICA remote display protocol superior to Microsoft's RDP but MS is closing the gap I think. ICA is definitely considered better with slow, choppy connections. I use RDP heavily over a DSL connection and have no real issues with it however.

I read this and the first thing that came to mind was definitely Citrix! And no sorry, I don't know of any off the top of my head. That would definitely be a cool market to get into.

Microsoft makes a program called Groove, I think it does what you are looking for, you just have to set it up on a server. Here is the link:

Im sure I could just IM you here at the office but..
...I wanted to share something I read a couple years ago when considering groove for some file management within the office (former employer).
I may not be able to link, as I have only been with WHT long enough to have a few hundred post, then get wiped as a result of the recent attacks to WHT.
Either way, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/m...harepoint.aspx or feel free to google technet groove and sharepoint : - )
I believe in conjunction with something you might find at www.codeplex.com (A SharePoint open source community) you may be able to find the solution you need.
