Traveling out of country - bring cell phone? (going to china)

Anyone have experiences with US cell phone use in China? I've heard that prepaid sim cards could be bought..?

    Thanks

When are you off to China? I am flying out there on Tuesday for a week. All business meetings though

I personally will be taking my telephone but be aware that if someone calls you from home, it will charge you the international rate. (At least, this is how it operates here in the UK, I am sure the US operate the same system)

Anyway, good luck with your trip!

If you use T-Mobile, AT&T, or Cingular you can use your phone in China (assuming it is a quad band world phone). Otherwise your luck may vary depending on CDMA setup in China.

I would buy a cheap Nokia 6010 (GSM), unlock it, and buy a prepaid sim for calls in China.

If it is unlocked then sure. Just make sure it supports the bands that run in China.
