Need Insurance Advice Fast!
In order to host my servers at any datacenter I have to have insurance. The one in particular requires 500k in liability insurance.
Is this is the case with every data center?
If so;
1. Who insures you?
2. How much is your insurance for?
3. What is your monthly premimum?Last edited by 2kau; 02-02-2006 at 04:43 PM.

Insurance advice
This was mentioned in another topic similar to this. They come highly recommended because they know what you need and tech sector insurance is what they do. http://www.techinsurance.com/default.aspx

Thanks. Is there any other companies? I am located in Texas.
When I tried to explain to the local insurance companies they were like we have no clue and we can't help.Keith Ubben

USAA https://www.usaa.com/inet/ent_logon/Logon
They found an underwrite and it was very well priced, you have to take the time to explain it.

http://www.ccbsure.com/ is another. We actually moved our coverage over to techinsurance.com, as their rates were very competitive and they were very helpful and professional.

We've been using http://www.ccbsure.com/ for the last 10 years. Never had a claim, but they have always been helpful when I had questions about our coverage. We never had to explain anything to them because they only work with underwriters that already understand computer and software related industries.
The underwriter was Kemper for a few years, something else for another few years, and now it is CCNA and has been for quite awhile.
As for trying to get an underwriter to understand anything, unless he/she is a blood relative, forget it. They tend to be the most hard headed of all bureaucrats you'll run into. They're right up there with bankers and the county assessor. If it isn't in their policy book, it doesn't exist or is too risky to insure.

Geico resells various insurance products for others. Last time I got a quote from them, it was about $350 per year for $1 million in liability insurance.

That sounds about right. We pay close to $4,000 a year for insurance, but we also have a goodly amount of property insurance and fire legal liability insurance for our building.

Business Insurance
You want business insurance, and the colocation facility is an additonal leased location.
ANY business insurance agency should be able to help you.
If your primary office is out of your home, then your home is the primary location.
You should expect to pay by the YEAR not the month. Generally any place that you rent any physical space from will require the insurance, whether its an office or a colo.
You can avoid this by leasing servers. Once you have the colo listed as an additional insured location the ins co. will send a certificate of insurance every year or will notify the colo if you cancel or are cancelled.
I can't belive that an agent didn't know what general liability insurance was.
Also you can obtain coverage on your servers and other busines equipment if you want in the same policy.
