Avatars and sigs ARE nice...no doubt BUT the reason why they are not and should not be is not the poor poor dialup customers lol but the fact that teh server this forum runs on will burst, so will the bandwith (at least for avatars which are stored).
Unfortunately vbulletin is the worst BB system I hsve ever worked with... even Attachments are stored in DB.. it really sucks

SP used to have 1,000's more members registered than WHT, we have more now (not really an indication of much either way IMHO), they have 70K more posts in 7,500 more threads though, so yes, I'd say they are bigger. They cover just about everything, we only cover web hosting, so I'd say we're doing ok.
Avatars were disabled, and I don't miss them either way. FWS uses them and I like mine there, but it doesn't add nor detract from forum'ing to me personally. To me, the only thing I really don't care for is images in the signature area.

Isn't there an option where people can choose if they want to view the avatars or not? I say let those that want to have avatars (small size and non animated ones) have them, so that we can all customize our posts a little.

Even though you can disable avatars and signatures in your vb profile, I still had to vote no. Anything that takes some load off of the site, and helps it run better is a good thing
If it was up to me, I would view a text version of the site, and at the rate vbulletin is moving, I could be doing just that in a few monthsChris Miller
