    * look' 4 > Quad i7/8GB/100MB link/ 100GB bkup @ €49

hi. I am currently hosted with hetzner in DE. Those are my dedicated box specs:
    http://www.hetzner.de/hosting/produkte_rootserver/eq4

    CentOS5, Plesk, in Europe.

Their interface is pretty confusing, and I'd like to move elsewhere.

I've visited more than 20 providers so far and did not find anything better.

Do you know any reputable provider that offers similar or better dedicated boxes at similar prices ?

I can't live with less memory and processor, I've always hosted on CentOS, don't require cpanel (open to any panel), and prefer a datacenter in Europe.

I won't take the risk of hosting with newbies and start-ups. I'd only host with stable data centers that have been around for many years.

    Any recommendations ?

You may want to try leaseweb or OVH for such specs and pricing.

Only OVH in France comes to my mind with those prices and specs...

Thank you Wizz for your kind comment.

OVH, am reluctant to host in France as their laws, as I heard but am not certain of, are pretty severe (you know, like closing your site if a member on your forum posted a link to an illegal download)

Correct me please if I am wrong.

leaseweb, I' ve had a bad experience with them in the past where I signed up for something and they billed me for something that cost 3 times more. I had to fight with them to get my money back.

.. and you shot down the only 2 players (well 3, considering you'd object to dedibox.fr for the same reasons) competing with Hetzner at that price, so...

Take some time and figure out the interface, since that seems to be your only gripe with Hetzner?

As far as I know, they do not sell any servers to other countries. You have to live in France to get the server from them.

Correct me if I am wrong

Just a little note on you asking for 100GB backup: I would recommend keeping a backup separate from your provider. If your data is important enough, you shouldn't ever trust a single provider to keep the sole copy of it.

Off-site, separate provider backups are the way to go.

The Hetzner robot is not too bad, it is different and takes a little getting used too but I find it hard to believe that would be the only reason for leaving.. How often do you need it?

I think the best answer I can give you is (OVH excluded) you simply wont find a dedicated server as stable as Hetzner in Europe at the same price.

I have a low end dedi box with them and its been running for 2 years now with no downtime.

If your budget can shift slightly you could try contacting quick web to see what budget boxes they may have available, racksrv.com have some good dedi deals on now too if UK is an option.

    Quick Web ? this ?
    http://quickweb.co.nz/de-dedicated-servers.html

if that is what you meant, then their closest match to what I have now is a dediB at $139 / month, compared to €49 am paying now with hetzner

I thank you for recommending racksrv.com
    Their offers are interesting
    http://www.racksrv.com/dedicated-servers

I think the closest match is the dedi 3, which is £99.99

When you add direct admin and CentOS, plus the VAT, it comes to £143 / month, which is much more than what I am paying now.

thank you again for your efforts.

€49 is just an unreasonable price.
That is one heck of an ROI timeframe for that hardware.

Agreed, Hetzner are doing a good job of de-valuing the market with silly pricing IMO!

You need to bump your price up 4 fold ... at least, that pricing is never going to happen.

well, many other hosts find it reasonable, they apply it, and they are making money and paying their employees.

Look around: hetzner is a trusted provider by many and it has been around for many years.

Jon, I have to admit to you that I don't like using the word "silly" when we actually mean "very competitive" or "hard to match".

I think we must here give credit to those great courageous companies that dare challenge the market and offer competitive prices. This is for the benefit of the customer: me (maybe you are a seller and then in that case, I understand such offers disturb you)

There is an alternative to your suggestion to bump my price up 4 fold... what a kind friend here earlier suggested : get used to the confusing robot and panel interface of hetzner.

For those of us who don't have a lot of money to splash around, OVH and Hetzner's prices are quite nice

Competition is the most important aspect of an open market.

What many major hosts agree under the table on, that is not lowering the prices and behave in a cartel-like manner by not competing against each other and maintaining prices where they are, is damn down illegal and those people would be sent to prison if we had better governments more concerned about the citizens' interests than collecting taxes. But let me stop here. I don't want to transform the thread to nagging about selective law enforcment.

That is a sweet price for what you get. They need to operate out of Dallas.
