Why would a tongue bleed after brushing?

    Hi,

I have looked on Google for the answer but can't find a direct answer. Does any one know why your tongue would bleed for no reason after you brush it? No pain or anything it just bleeds for a little bit then stops. Any suggestions on what might cause it would be great.

perhaps your brushing your tongue to hard? or your brushing to long? I would ask a dentist to make sure there is not a problem.
Do your gums bleed when you brush?

Well, that steel bristled brush may be one reason for the bleeding...

Seriously, that doesn't sound healthy (or normal). Can you give more details? How long are you brushing your tongue? Is it with just a regular toothbrush? How often does it happen?

I was thinking to hard at first aswell. It isn't me its actually a friend of mine. Shes 19, gums don't bleed and she brushes regularly. I search with those keywords and most of the stuff it led me to were other diseases.

    Thanks

I think I read some where that it is a side-effect of tongue cancer.

I would guess it's her gums bleeding. With Saliva diluting the blood, it would look like it was coming from any location.
She needs to see a dentist.

Ok, now that was just mean

On a serious note, it might be the gums. I've heard of this before. If the tongue is bleeding, she might have a very slim skin on her tongue. It's not that uncommon. If it's her gums, she should get that checked. Could be lack of vitamins.

my gums bleed sometimes, but not enough to make me think its my tongue. try changing your toothbrush, but definitely call your dentist. if you find out you wasted your time, it's better than finding out you caught the cancer too late.

As Lorand said it can be thin skin -- every single time I brush, no matter how soft, my gums bleed.
