Yup, do you have yum? Just a simple 'yum install gcc make' would do the trick to let you compile. I'm guessing you knowingly bought an unmanaged server and never asked for specific OS install options.

Ah, sorry! Might be a nice saving to grab a dedicated MySQL box then. Probably want to think about the redundancy side of things though, cause a problem would interrupt all users on every server.

Should be fine for cPanel! Think the recommendation is 256MB of memory for cPanel, maybe less for the optimised version. I've ran plenty of cPanel virtual servers with 256MB & a good amount of sites.
