Looking for the Fastest FTP Client in the Galaxy
I have fiber connection, a fast VPS and the slowest FTP client.
Time for a change. Which FTP Client Folks ??? |
I've used SmartFTP and FileZilla. FileZilla is free.
|
If you're transferring large files you can realize the transfer speed but if you are transferring lost of small files you won't because FTP makes and breaks connections for each individual file transfer.
1,000mb in 2500 files will take a *lot* longer to transfer than 1,000mb in 2 files even if you and your server were connected together via a gigabit link :) |
I use FileZilla and love it. It is free and updates frequently. I highly recommend it.

Your right, I downloaded the update for WHMCS and it was averaging 40kbs. Big files download around 1000mbs. By the way I use both WinSCP and Coffeecup FTP clients. Coffeecup won't do SFTP even though it says it will and WinSCP requires me to drag and drop from my Windows Explorer. I would really like to have one program that will do SFTP, FTP and Edit Files so I don't have to keep changing programs. |

Our office uses CuteFTP, highly recommended, not free though.

FileZilla will work just fine for you.
|
didn't we just have a thread just like this? everyone said filezilla for windows, gnome-ftp for linux and some other thing for macosx.
don't forget if you're using encryption, and you should be, it will leave quite an overhead - plain ftp is one of the fastest of all transfer protocols, adding ssl/ssh will slow it down, also try turning on compression, or tar'ing up lots of small files into one big one, which will also be faster to write to your local disk. |
I recommend FileZilla, as you can use several connection to the same server, if you have 1000+ files to upload it will speed up process.

I use www.coreftp.com its free and fast and does ftp, scp, sftp and much more.
|
I am a big fan of Filezilla. I have used numerous FTP clients in the past and it out performs them all.
|
another vote for filezilla - I've used cuteftp before but it never stuck with me.
I also used to use another one...forgot the name - also started with a 'C' - it was really good and it was installed on my old old computer. |
Highly recommend FlashFXP, not free but one of the best FTP/FXP client out there if you are looking for free FileZilla but really hate it! :)
