Yes i do
I'd say it's best to take orders from whoever wants to place'em. And if it's a hotmail or yahoo account, maybe their domain isn't setup yet, so they can't send e-mail via that means. But if it was from
customer@ihateyourhostingyouregoingtodie.org
I'd think twice about taking the order ;)
Yes. Many people use free Yahoo, etc accounts because they're easily accessable from any computer. Lots of fraudulant orders come from free email addresses, but then so do a lot of perfectly legitimate orders. I would never not accept a user based soley on their email address
exactly... but more importantly, if someone wants to commit fraud, they will find a way, regardless of whether or not you ban a list of e-mail accounts. No reason to punish or inconvenience potential honest cusomers.Quote:

Normally, yes we accept them
If the Name and address match the CC, they have input a valid phone number and their IP isn't blacklisted we will sign them up.
No, we don't.
Every ISP provide you with an email address, why don't use it?
we accept order from these email address's due to the overwhelming amount of people that use them :)
We do, but then again we also ask for a free email account for all our clients. This is so that we can contact them in an emergency, there is nothing worse than someone who signs up with a domain address but hasn't even registered the domain yet.
I think the main reason is that they'd rather have the convenience of web mail than firing up Outlook or equivalent to check their mail. Most ISPs that I know of don't provide web mail.Quote:

With places such as BigMailBox.com there are ooddles and oodles of 'free email addresses' available. Blocking "Yahoo and Hotmail" would only put a tiny dent in solving the problem but a huge dent in the number of valid orders you may receive.
If the address looks like a "free email address" we do extra checking on the order prior to activation but by no means would we place a blanket denial on them.
yes, we accept these signups.
Oh, yes, I have banned more than 200 @domain address :P
ROFL!!!! :DQuote:

I do, I understand why people use web based addresses, I've had a yahoo address for years, and all my other addresses mail is forwarded there.
Modernbill has a list of 150 so email addresses we have added another 100 or so. We have reduced fraud by closing these free accounts.
Here's another 20,000 FREE email @domains that need blocking. :DQuote:

YES, We accept customers from FREE email services, including Yahoo & Hotmail. However, we Voice Verify 100% of our orders to prevent Fraud and protect the consumer. Address & Zip code must match on Credit Card and CVV must also match.
Nowdays, yes. But back in the beginning I used to block as many as I could find. When I found out a lot of these places have the same MX listed, I would block based on a domains MX as well (more names, less hassle).
So, yes.
I do not accept emails from these free places at all anymore, and have told business clients that correespond with their clients by e-mail as part of their communication methods to not do it anymore.
This was not just from the aspect of anonymity but from security reasons such as being bombarded with virus attachments since some use these same accounts to roam around the sex sites, etc.
Commonsense would dictate that using their isp email address isnt a hard thing considering they are using c/card details to pay x amount of dollars to the stranger at the other end who they are buying a service from.
We do not take orders with free email.
I have banned about 300+ emails from our order page, only ISP emails or thir domain related emails are accepted.
Since we started doing this orders have not reduced but yes Fruad has. Not a single fruad order since we started rejecting free emails signups :D :) ( touch wood)
I also take orders from whoever signs up with any address. As most of my customers are new to web hosting they are still using there free hotmail, yahoo mail etc. But once they signup they start using there new address on the domain they have hosted so upon signing up for other packages they use there new address.
Modernbill's list is actually 1344 ( ) free email accounts at last count... However we don't block orders from these addresses. Instead, we compare the order IP with the client's country, and request further verification if there is a mis-match (may be traveling, etc).Quote:

Works pretty well as a first-line fraud check before we do further analysis. :D
Am I just insanely lucky?
I've had 1 chargeback and 1 fraudulent order since going into business.
The fraud order was a resold dedicated server through Billpoint. The chargeback was someone who used 4 months of hosting and just charged back, what can you do? That's it. Is it because I use 2checkout and Paypal and not my own merchant account? If that's so hell screw the merchant account, sounds like the extra couple hundred 2checkout costs me is made up for in lack of fraud.
Care to share how to block these free email's (the proven fraudulent ones) and yet still allow honest ppl.
In another very informative thread I found a file and basicly intructions of how to block known fraudulent countries *cough*indonesia*cough*
Was just hoping we could shed a lil more light on this very informative info ;)
I have used at least five ISPs who have not provided any form of email at all, some cable connections and some dial ups.Quote:

I use my free email accounts (including when I order things) because it is more reliable, faster and easy to access.
We ask that the client provide us with a valid ISP email address or an address from a business. A majority of people who access the internet use an ISP and probably have/can get one. If not we will double screen that order.
This sounds very reasonable. :)Quote:
