Stackable high-performance gigabit Layer3 Switch Reccomendations?
Hello,
I need to buy a 48-port Layer-3 stackable gigabit ethernet switch. The single most important factor for me is speed. I am going to be pushing a lot of traffic. As far as feature set, I need VLAN support for trunk ports across all 48-ports. I do not need any fancy ACL, DDOS, BGP, or routing features. However, I do need the ability to add 2 GBIC ports for uplink. I don't expect to use more than a dozen VLAN's.
I am looking at getting a Nortel 5510-48t switch (formerly known as BayStack). I've found it at CDW for ~$4300. Apparently, they can stack up to 8 switches.
I've also been reading on the beowulf forums that the Nortel 5510 may outperform some of the Cisco Catalyst switches. I don't know if that is true or not. But if it is, that is reason enough for me to go with this switch.
Are there any 48-port gigabit switches out there that are faster than the Nortel 5510? I'm planing on having most of the ports heavily loaded. I'm not interested in feature set beyond VLAN trunk ports. So, a lot of the Cisco catalyst functionality will go to waste.
Thanks again!
