first off whats a core based xeon? you mean just dual core or woodcrest or dempsey or what?
second off do you actually need 2TB of transfer?
and I haven't heard of a provider offering less than 80GB on a good system especially now a days.
What are you planning on using it for? Do you have any network requirements for reliability/latency? (For example game hosting or something)
This will help people giving you reccomendations.
Gaming basically. (It will run ventrilo as well)
I'd like a woodcrest if its going to be a xeon.
Right now I have a softlayer server but on the east we are not getting good enough pings to justify the costs, though the hardware deal we got was great.
Some offers I found for you...
dedicatednow.com - dual opteron 246 2GB ram, 2x200GB HDD, 2TB bw for $205/mo
15minuteservers.com - amd x2 4400+, 1GB ram, 200GB HDD, 1TB bw for $190/mo (~equal to the opteron 175, add $20 for another gig of ram)
Also maybe check out Choopa.com and CRNC.net, not sure if they will meet your budget but they offer quality services.
P.S. all those networks should be efficient for gaming...
and how does dual opteron 246's compare to like an opteron 175 dual core?
Thanks you guys are being a big help.
A dual opteron 246 runs two cpus at 2.0ghz, the opteron 175 runs two cores at 2.2ghz.... the 2x246 is about equal to the 170.
and no problem...
i've never been considered plural before ;-)Quote:

There are several providers who've posted in the offers section that meet this spec-- just so you know. CRNC is pretty reliable as is choopa though it'd likely be more than $200 and, last time I checked, CRNC isn't offering dedicated any longer.
Thanks.
I'm looking to run 4-5 servers, what sort of hardware configuration should I be looking at?
Well what game first off? I base the following on Half-life + Mods...(most commonly run game)
Well that completely depends on the activity in the servers and how big they are but I'm sure a dual core opteron could handle it. But you don't necesarily need 2GB of RAM, 1GB would be sufficient for only 4-5 servers.
Unless they are all 32 player pubs I would think your config is fine.
i meant < 200 too ;)
what OS / game / # of slots?
Superb servers has something in the deals section I'm interested in, any experience with them in gaming?
I need CS 1.6 servers, I want one source pub, and maybe possibly looking into BF2ish type games.
bump!
Does anyone have any experience with superbservers?
Superb is great for Virginia, been through a couple servers with them.
Toqen is great for NY, great network, great support, great people.
www.Toqen.com [ I hosted 1.6 servers with Superb and plan to with Toqen. ]
i wish toqen would have a working site so I could compare them.
Do you have any contact for any of toqen's people?
sorry about the site.... been working on it and the new design should be uploaded in a week or so....too many sites being designed by my guys that we can't focus on our own as clients' sites are more important....but if you need to get in touch email sales at toqen dot com for info
is there anybody I can live chat with? via aim or msn or anything?
I'm very interested in checkin' you guys out because I've heard nothing but good things.
can i post my msn or yahoo IM here?
Go to ... "Profile" (blue bar, upper right corner of each page) > "Edit Profile" (vertical nav on the left), and add any IM info in their respective fields. Other users can then click in the little icons underneath your user name to initiate an IM session.Quote:

Oh and since you are considering Toqen, they look to have a good network for gaming too. Level3 & UUNet are great backbones.
i was actually trying to avoid putting my IM clickable by anyone lol...but i guess it doesn't hurt lol....Quote:
