Uhhh! Help me! I need advice!
I sold a hosting company (no names will be mentioned in here) last year, September. Due to the mess it was in with it's previous owner I had to make sure every customer was in the new billing system. Some customers paid through PayPal and that's what the problems over now - I'll explain:
So there I was, a failing hosting company with no billing system (as one of the servers had a hard-drive failure and we lost everything on that server) - I couldn't manage the work load or the new server costs. So, I had to sell up.
The guy brought the company - he knew the billing system situation. I helped him out a bit - he kept changing billing systems so I couldn't do much and I left about two weeks later.
A month later, he messages me telling me a customer has been paying me through paypal on a monthly subscription for $5 hosting. So, I checked - he was correct. I refunded the customer, and told the guy to WARN and EXPLAIN to all customers who they pay and how they pay - all the customers should have been put in the new billing system and been told to cancel all other subscriptions. So, without any other fuss, I assumed he did it and again, faded into the background.
Right now, I had a customer from his company telling me I owe him $180 as hes being paying me through a PayPal subscription. So I'm in shock! I've checked and he's correct....
The manager of the hosting company is telling me I've "stole" the money from him - I don't see how that's possible, I hardly use PayPal - all I use it for is my monthly subscriptions to websites and hosting and my eBay items, I don't check anything. I asked him why he didn't warn his customers and he changes the subject and goes back and tells me I'm stealing....
I've emailed the customer back telling him it was the managers responsibility to make sure all the customers were paying him and not anyone else and I'm waiting for a reply. I'm very shocked - where am I going to get $180 from out of the blue? I didn't even know :(
The manager has well and truly dropped me in it and avoiding that it was his responsibiliy. What am I going to do? The customers even on about filing a FRAUD complaint with PayPal :bawling:
And I have just checked no other previous customers still have subscriptions, so that's a start :(
Any advice? I REALLY need it!
