Network Solutions Hosting, CNAME and DNS questions
I've googled extensively about a problem I'm having, and the archives for this site gave some useful clues, but I think I need more help.
I've been hosting my site with cfm-resources.com, and just this weekend decided to get a new hosting service for the next year. I chose networksolutions.com, and also decided at the same time to use GoDaddy to register some new domain names for the purpose of pointing to the site. I'll admit I am a chronic hosting and domain name service hopper - my resource-needs keep changing and I usually have no problems keeping my site online, but now I'm running into CNAME and MX records for the very first time.
Here's the question. Network Solutions FAQ, Customer Service guide and phone Customer Service will/does not provide me name servers or IP numbers to use with my domain name registrar. I've called in and pleaded and run into a brick wall over this - getting the impression all I need is the info on NetworkSolutions' "DNS Record Information" page. The info I've been given read thus:
(Names have been changed to protect the innocent)
===================================================
For Hosting/ Website
CNAME Record YOURDOMAINNAME.COM. XXXXX.NETSOLHOST.COM.
CNAME Record *.YOURDOMAINNAME.COM. XXXXX.NETSOLHOST.COM.
For E-mail
MX Record YOURDOMAINNAME.COM. 10 INBOUND.YOURDOMAINNAME.COM.NETSOLMAIL.NET.
CNAME Records MAIL.YOURDOMAINNAME.COM. MAIL.YOURDOMAINNAME.COM.NETSOLMAIL.NET.
CNAME Records SMTP.YOURDOMAINNAME.COM. SMTP.YOURDOMAINNAME.COM.NETSOLMAIL.NET.

On GoDaddy, I've found where I can change/edit/add/delete CNAME and MX records, and I can only hope I've filled in the fields correctly, at least those I could recognize. But I'm still having a problem where GoDaddy has input fields for IP address (under A record) and name servers (on the main Manage Domain Name page). Do I leave these with GoDaddy's default values? NetworkSolutions Customer Service has point-blank told me they don't tell their clients what to put in there. (I'm still considering asking for my money back!)
I can't leave the name servers as GoDaddy's parking servers, I'm pretty sure.
1) Should I be entering "ns1.netsolmail.com" and "ns2.netsolmail.com" (which I got from WHOISing netsolhost.com) for my name servers or is this for entering "ns1.mynewdomainname.com"?
2) Do I need an IP address given by NetworkSolutions to enter in my A record, for the CNAME And MX records to work? How do I obtain this? Is this IP number going to be the same IP for netsolhost.com? (On a side note, I've had no problems FTPing and uploading and viewing my site at XXXXX.netsolhost.com.)
I really appreciate any and all help. Thanks for your time and attention.
