New online business
I recently started the site showrides.net. It took me awhile to figure everything out but i am getting better at it. The problem is i can't get enough people to view my site. if anyone who has started a company and has been succesful could send me an email on some tips to really start selling some products i would appreciate it. Also if you have any ideas on how i can improve my site to get more sales let me know. Just to let you know the site is dedicated to mostly selling mustang parts. Thanks for the help.

Hi showrides :) ,
Search engines are the most important
80% of the visitors traffic come frome search engines
so start making your site search engines friendly
How?
Title : put the keywords people might write when they search on your site title
Links: try to put the links in your site very close or as the keywords like for example "Linux hosting"
Use <h1> and <h2> heading tags for keywords
don't forget to register your site in most search engins and in dmoz.org
there are many companies that do search engines optimization try to find some and PPC search engines are good
banner ads
now not many people click on the banners but it could help you to build your name when people see it many times
free methodes to get some traffiic
try to put 4 example send to friend script or screen savers that people could send it to each others and while the screen saver run it could show ur url address...
affliate program is good also
need more ..?
tell me
cheers,
Homam

So far we have done all the search engine stuff. The screensaver idea is the only thing we haven't tried already. That could help a little i was just wondering how these people get thousands of unique visitors every day. I am only getting about 1000 hits a day now and for the most part they are just people visiting again. I know my stuff is priced well enough to sell and beats lots of the websties out there, the only problem is i still need many more hits. So if you have any other ideas than the screensaver one it could help. But i will do that. I guess i could get more affiliates but that is starting to get exspensive too. Let me know what you think.

First I want to say that more than 31,000 requests since March 2005 is not bad at all for a new online business. You could advertise in US car tuning magazines to attract more visitors. Or be an active member in US car tuning forums and use your signature for advertisement.
I looked through your website but couldn't find any detailed contact information and/or telephone number. Maybe it can be found after logging in, but contact information should be clear visible on a business website, especially when selling higher priced items.
Be patient, it takes some time until a new online business gets successful.

Actually it depends on what kind of goods you are selling, as if the good is not popular there won't be many customers. Main things are definitly search engine optimization and time! Let people know that your prices and services are good and they'll tell it to their friends, that's it!

the online forums we have been doing for awhile. we do have a signature with out link so everytime we say something it shows up. The contact information just lets the person fill out a form asking any questions they may have. We get that email and then we write back. so you think that is not enough? i could put an email address down instead, maybe that will make people feel more comfortable.

Maybe it's not the time yet, how long is it operating?
-
is has been operating since early april. We didn't have much stuff to sell back then but we keep getting more and more. Let me know if you have any other ideas on what to do.

You could create an "About Us" page with an informative description, maybe some photos and your business address with phone number. In my opinion it's very important for an online business to tell its potential customers whom they are doing business with. Would you do business with a company you have no information about?
You don't sell webhosting plans for 1.95/month but higher priced tuning parts. It's not easy to turn visitors into paying customers when the company is not really known.

Hi, I notice you have an oscommerce site. There will be a lot of information and contributions over at the oscommerce forums that will be of help to you. You might like to look at the "ultimate SEO URLs" contribution and one of the header tags contributions if you are not already using one.

I hope the AIM conversation we had helped.

The myspace idea was a good one. Lots of extra people see the site now. The about us page i should get working on. Not quite sure what i will put in there. do drop shipping companies need to put a business address? i never see any of the stuff i am basically just a salesman. the about me part i could add some decent stuff about how i have worked before with some of the biggest online sites and i have been making websites for years. Still i am open to any more ideas people may have.
mikelc, thanks for the idea but we have already done that.

Maybe you might want to run an add on http://www.thefacebook.com, its a SUPER popular college website. I don't know anything about results from advertising on there, but I know they offer ad placement.
