memory usage
I have a new server up, running red had enterprise and cPanel, everything seemed to be running just fine, untill i deciided to install phpsysinfo and it showed 95% memory as being used, so i checked and here's what i have:

Mem: 505396 483448 21948
But looking at everything else, i've no idea what's using my memory,
74 processes: 72 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: cpu user nice system irq softirq iowait idle
total 0.3% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 99.6%
load average: 0.15, 0.03, 0.01
The top two processes are mdmpd and mysql but both only showing 2% memory use.
Am i reading something wrong?

How much ram is being used by disk cache? Login and run "free"

i had to restart the box after being up for more then 19 hours it would be at 97% full

The system has just put all the ram the disk cache which is pretty normal under Linux

but why is the usage so high?
Mem: 514600k av, 505112k used, 9488k free, 0k shrd, 71392k buff
71708k active, 272392k inactive
and the uptime was less then 18 hours

Did you run the command top? you can sort by memory usage by hitting M after running the top command.

Learn how linux works and then you will understand why it is so high.

In Linux a memory is often cached, there is a reason for this. Many small processes will take advantage of free memory and go ahead and use it, causing large processes to have no memory, therefore slow down the system, sometimes greatly. Because of this Linux caches a large amount of free memory in order to stop processes using memory when it needs not to and so that only processes that really need to use memory will be able to, effectively this helps make Linux faster and lower the amount of crashes.
