Which in your opinion is the best phone to use for the hosting business? I've seen a few threads discussing certain ones specifically, so I want to get an idea of where people stand on the best for our uses.

Ive voted for the o2 XDA 2 only because I have tried it and its very very good (much better then I expected anyway). Have not used any others though.
Also if you could post why you picked the phone you did, I see some votes for the Treo 600, what do you like about it?
I like P900.
Can't tell, that it's the best PDA, but P900 is useful for me.
Anything specific about it? Features or otherwise?

Greetings:
I've been using the Sprint Treo 600 since late December 2003. It works like a charm.
Thank you.
Anyone know if you can use the P900 on the US T-mobile network?
Hi!
If I have to choose now, I will get SE P900. However right now I'm waiting for the launch of Nokia new communicator later this year.
I don't know about 'best', because I haven't used all of them. However I love my Treo 600. It does everything I need.
I had an XDA one, but got rid of it because I couldn't stand always using the earpiece for it. The P900 seems a bit steep in price to me though, maybe I'll go with the Treo, it's the cheapest of the lot.
For those of you running the Treo 600 does it offer full html browsing as if you were using a laptop? I called almost bought one the other day but the guy was 'yessing' me to death about everything I asked so I wanted to get some first hand feedback.
Basically what I need is the ability to login to our helpdesk (kayako) and browse some other sites such as ev1servers.net behind a SSL to open tickets and SSH access..
Trying to cut down on what I have to carry around everywhere as now I just bring me cell and a backpack with my laptop and this would be much easier.
Unless you use KayKo's PDA interface (provided for free I think with current version) the treo will struggle with all the graphics on eSupport.Quote:

I use the treo (on sprint network) with my own (home made) control panel to check on and setup new accounts, and minor account administration.
When I need a "full" browser I hook the treo op to my lap top via the usb cable and pdanet software. I can browse at speeds around 140k and am a happy camper. Since I got the unlimited web interface plan, this is really cool. I'm droping my Verizon aircard service when the contract expires at the end of this month saving $80 a month.

Ok so looks like I am stuck lugging around the laptop, thanks alot that is all the information I needed :)
As far as hooking up your phone to the laptop I noticed that since one of the updates on my sprint dialup software I can no longer SSH using putty or anything else, do you know if verizon has this same restriction?
We have had good luck with our HipTop Phone they let you use email, IM and the Web in a phone. Easy to use and at a good price.
HipHop phone?
Treo600 all the way!
I like the Danger Sidekick (also known as T-Mobile Sidekick).
It has a decent web browser, email client, SSH shell client (the reason I chose it) and qwerty keypad. I don't use it as a phone much, but since I use it to log in shell remotely or browse a web site when needed, it serves me well.
There are a few new phones coming out soon to compete with it, including a Motorola and a new Sidekick model, check the newsgroups or google to get more info or try howarchui.com OR one of the cell phone forums.
I have a Treo 600 and love it. Full web browser, SSH, AIM/ICQ clients, etc. make it a winner!
You can search my previous posts for more information I've posted about my Treo.
I have an i-mate (exactly the same as XDA2) and you get full web browsing with GPRS. Watch the costs though, as I just got my first GPRS bill and it was over $400.00. :eek3:
But make sure you have images turned off etc. I have that set now. :o
P900 it does everything you need to run your business from.
I can get alearts to server problems, SSH to any server, log into WHM, my help desk, my APC reboot ports, and best of all call the data center when I need to. Not sure what else you would need when you are out of the office.

You never told me you got the 900. Is it better than the 800 in your opinion?

No doubt it's great technology that frees us up from the office. Now if they could just get the screens a bit bigger. All that flippin scrolling! bah! :)Quote:

Nothing beats a Windows Update while flying down the highway at 90mph... :D
Same thing just a few more bells and whistles. Better color on the screen and better camera is about all.Quote:

Was glad I had it tonight, MySQL crashed on a server while out to dinner with the wife, got alert message, opened SSH session, logged in restarted MySQL and was back eating dinner again in less than 5 minutes. :D

I pick the P900 as I love my SE900. This phone does everything I could ever want, with the ability to get on the internet, check my email accounts, log into Aim,Yahoo,Icq, and Irc, take pictures, make a video, and even talk on the phone along with bluetooth that works great with my laptop. You can't go wrong with the P900, only downside I would say is that the GPRS service is not very strong as of yet since it is very new, but give the service some time and you will be able to talk anywhere in the world.
So I would go with the P900 in a heartbeat, as I love mine to death.
Sprint's Samsung SPH-I500
Best phone. Love the size. Amazingly small. Treo 600 is much bigger, but it definitely has the advantage of the keyboard. The i500 is nice, but it doesn't haven't the keyboard, its like a normal palm pda. Place to write, and the screen. But i just love the size and i've had it about 4 months now. its working great.
I broke my other phone, so i'm now insuring my i500 with sprint for 4 bucks a month. its definitely worth it. after you drop one and break it, you'll wish u had the insurance.
good luck
Such a techno geek! :stickout:Quote:

"heh, wait a minute honey, I have to ssh into a server thousands of miles from me, and fix the MySQL . . . ahhhhh, all done".
I have used the 600 to login to a Kayako system and I had no problems at all. I could read/reply, etc. although the screen was small.
I would go to the sprint store and borrow theirs and see if can login to your system (try before you buy). Of course the sprint store I went to didn't even know about it--they said it could access the internet but they didn't know how...
I bought the Treo600 last year and have been very happy. It has a *really* long battery life needed before charging. For example, the other day I used it on and off for approx. 12 hours talking on it; using the data services, etc. and the battery did not completely drain.
HP 928 is a good PDA Phone... And with a plus, it's very cheap compared to other pocketpc's. Look at Ebay, you'll find good deals there.
