The advice given is sound as it does cover a couple of bases & is a good solution.

It is still the norm for most people to not bother with creating a favicon. So rather then go against the majority we just automatically create one for every new account.

No 404 msg. and a blank favicon is shown. If the Client does want their own favicon they are free to create one, upload it and make the necessary path statement in their Web pages. Everybody happy that way. :D

Unfortunately under IE6 the fav icons in the favourites menu are purged when the cache is cleared, and in some cases even before then.

I believe Firefox keeps them... perhaps MS will change this in IE7?

I know we don't have one, but I like them with I use tabbed browsing in FireFox, Emily

favicons must be in .ico format. firefox and ie both take .ico

but i know an easier way to make the ico file instead of dling any converter programs

its simple:
1) make ur icon in photoshop
2) save as png
3) then rename the file and to favico.ico

and wala!, done lol

I usually use this place for favicons http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/. It isn't necessary to download any software and it is very simple to use.
