Server Configuration
We're building out a couple of new servers (which I haven't had to do in a few years). What's the recommended build out these days? In the past, I've done a WD VelociRaptor for the OS, and RAID5 or RAID10 for the data. However, with SSD becoming cheaper - maybe that's a better solution?

Web hosting (non-databases).

For web hosting only and no database, I would go with 15k SAS in a RAID configuration. It might seem advantageous to go with SSD but would be a waste. The cost per GB is still much more than a 15k and the client on the receiving end of a web page would be weak link in the setup. the money you save by not going with SSD's to get the same amount of space, spen it on RAM. Your server can then be configured to cache the data and server it out faster than the SSD's. WIN/WIN.

What's the advantage of SAS vs. regular drives? What kind of raid setup would you recommend - raid 10?

Q1 - In a RAID setup the SAS drives theoretically have higher bandwidth and greater reliability than a traditional drive. To clarify I dont know of any brands that I would trust in the 15k range that were are not SAS. I kind of added it in case you were going to search for 15k hard drives but did not add SAS or RAID to the query, resulting in a variety of results with questionable quality (or none at all). Also if you are using certain servers, their raid controllers may only work with SAS (unless you did some hacking).
Raid 10 would be a preference but before I commit to that, would you mind sharing a few details about the content that will be hosted on your servers? - Joomla vs static html, ftp access also, etc. In addition could you share some details about your server(s). That way I don't recommend something that the server cant support.
