Since accommodation has come up a few times recently, let's start a thread for current accommodation info for those who haven't booked yet.
Some things to know before you choose a hotel:
- The Mirage, where the conference is, is on the Strip. Several hotels are within walking distance, as you can see on this map. As the hotels are quite large, they are further apart than they may appear to be.
- Several companies run shuttle buses from the airport to the hotels on the Strip and in other areas.
- Staying at the hotel where the conference is has advantages, as Madrooster Tony pointed out in this post.
- The conference rate for The Mirage ends June 16.
- The minimum age to sign in at most or (maybe) all hotels in Vegas is 21 years.
- Some hotels may offer discounts they don't advertise, such as discounts for AAA members.
- You can find Vegas hotel reviews here.
I can't make any recommendations because I've never been there. But for the budget-minded, here are a few hotels in the area that cost less than The Mirage. Note that tomorrow's prices may be different; I've already seen some of them change.
- Treasure Island (next door) currently shows $99/night. Actually it shows $119 for one night, but if you go to Check Rates from their Accommodations page, it's $99/night for all 3 nights.
- Harrah's (across the street) currently has prices $100 and under a night.
- Imperial Palace (across the street) currently charges $66/night.
Prices are based on single occupancy. Some but not all hotels have wireless Internet access.
An option for those who are under 21 and have student ID is to stay at a hostel. Both Vegas hostels are in a less-than-desirable area of town, but they're cheap, and (AFAIK) you don't have to be 21 to book at one of them. You do, however, need proof of being from another country, or if you're American, have student ID.
