Hi, welcome to WHT, 100% of uptime is almost impossible on a shared hosting account.
Which are your needs in space and bandwidth? any preference on control panel? programming languages, etc?
Well i know 100% is not possible but i would like as much redundancy as possible. I will not be using much space and bandwidth. Maybe 100mb and 20gb of bandwidth. As for control pannel Plesk or Cpannel and just standard PHP programming. I see your in BsAs :). I spent three months last summer down there I love it, and argentina is a gorgeous country. Thanks in advance.
In fact trying too hard for 100% uptime in a shared hosing environment can cause trouble. Not having occasional brief outages may be an indicator that not all needed patches are being applied. A well run host should, however, be able to consistently stay pretty close.
I agree, 100% uptime is theoretically impossible because no one knows when a hardware could malfunction, however you could possibly go with a host with a good track record or a uptime SLA policy so you are kept assured that there should be a certain level of uptime standard. Do you have any other requirements such as server location?
Hey.I hope this will be useful. I have this site in my bookmarks for a while. They are called Hostingiso, their site looks great, and they are up and running from over 6 years. You can check it out, if you think is is suitable for you you can make a deal with them, I think they are reliable and professional. Thanks again, and well you can find them at http://www.hostingiso.com/ , hope there is no problem if I post the link.
Most host would say they have 9.99% uptime because 100% is almost impossible. Try browsing our web hosting offers section here and then search for reviews on your target host just beware of fake review site which is nothing but littered with affiliate links
WireNine any recommendations? Preferably id like the hosting to be in the midwest. Chicago, ATL or TX. However, i will consider anything in the US.
best way to find it is to look here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4
thats how i found mine. Pick one (or more) you like, then search for reviews here and on google. Thats best way to go, picking some company just coz someone recommended it is no smart things to do. Take time to read reviews before you buy anything.
Try and find a list of providers that in the shared section that you feel will fit your needs - generate a short list and then search for reviews like so. Once you've narrowed it down to a select few contact their sales departments and see what you can find out - ask for uptime reports if they have them. Since uptime is your primary priority a host with a solid track record of uptime is likely to maintain that.
As others have said and as you say you already know 100% simply isn't going to happen in a shared environment as you do need to occasionally reboot for kernel upgrades and there are other reasons but scheduled maintenance and unscheduled downtime are two different things. Also, hardware does fail - try and find a provider that uses Raid10 and has a solid backup system but always maintain your own off-provider backups if your site is important to you even if your provider claims to do so.
Good luck!
Since 100% uptime isn't available, I would suggest 2 options:
1) Buy some managed server (pretty fast and stable)
or
2) Buy 2 accounts on different hosts, Sync them with any software or manually, and buy automatic offline DNS management.
For example, No-ip offers offline settings (when your website is found offline, it changes the DNS to whatever you want: example your other host.)
This will limit the downtime pretty much
If you are looking for 100% uptime, you will most likely be disappointed. You need to look for a more realistic figure when it comes to uptime in shared hosting.
At the very least, a decent shared hosting provider would ensure their uptime to be 99.9%; anything lower and you just found a reason to migrate to another host. I also doubt that you will be finding a cloud hosting provider that is a "smaller sized boutique"
Yes, if you are stick with 100% uptime then you will be hardly find a host which might offer this. As you might find someone but atleast for a maintainence purpose of the server they are going to be reboot the server once. So how could be it 100% uptime possible?
To maximise your 100% Uptime, You could purchase 2 VPS and have a virtual RAID so that when 1 is down, you have the other running with the same setting ect. But make sure that they are located of 2 different servers on 2 different racks.
If its even possible. ;)
Whats your requirements ?
What site are you going to be running ?
Scripts ?
Budget ?
Forget about 100% uptime!
Yeah sorry i should not have said 100% uptime.. I am just going to buy two nice shared accounts and do some type of DNS failover... Does anyone have a guide on how to accomplish this?
Yeah but in the meantime i could loose hundreds of dollars.... Id loose roughly 20$ every minute the hosting is down.
Jedito, i talked to Frederick regarding some of your services. Could you get back to me? Do you have AIM or Skype?
Thanks,
Jonathon
