Use something call PBXinaFlash or Freepbx. But not Trixbox.
PBXinaFlash is a straigh easy ISO install where Freepbx you have to install the operating system manually and lock everything down. Where as PBXinaFlash includes Freepbx and its a easy ISO download, burn it to a DVD and off you go.
The reason why i say stay away from Trixbox is that it has a lot of open security issues that are not at all well documented.... if at all!
I think PBX in a Flash will more than meet your requirements... we use it to link our international offices etc and it works fantasic!!!
In regards to windows... yes you do have something call citrix, but from my understanding you have to pay for it (i think there is a free lite version), but with windows you seem to have to restart things and again you have licensing costs.
Just my 2 thoughts.
For windows a great option is 3cx from 3cx.com.
Elastix is very popular. Trixbox is ok but people are moving away from it. There are still lots of people that prefer trixbox. AsteriskNOW is Digium's current release but it is basically just FreePBX. PBXinaFlash is also another popular solutions. We like Elastix but PBXinaFlash is nice to!
Check out switchvox :)
For Windows try minisipServer
Take a look at Cisco Call Manager Express on the UC320. It has a very easy to use interface and is quite inexpensive.
My company uses Elastix and it works fine.
It's pretty cheap, they charge per simultaneous call, not per extension.
I'm about ready to roll out 3CX on about 140 handsets, across four sites. Our cost is about $4400 for the software with up to 64 simultaneous calls, four ATA's for paging and cordless phones; since we have them already... Plus local/state tax. Our phone bill is about $6-7k/mo and will go down to about $1-1.5k/mo, so the software is CHEAP.
I've been testing for over a month with iCall as the SIP trunk provider.
Old thread that was bumped, but my vote is for PBX in a Flash. It's easy to install and most importantly security is their main focus along with the ability apply updates/fixes which is something I don't see in the other distro's.
I was the first person from ireland to go through their training and get certified. Within months i had dropped them completely, constant issues and support was very hit and miss.
Stared using snomeONE and very very happy with it, and so are the clients that I rolled it out to. A couple are wanting to switch from 3CX to snomONE since they heard how much more stable it is
We spoke to a few local places that use 3CX, 10, 30 and 300+ handset locations. All seem to be happy with it's performance, especially those running v9 or v10 (especially v10). I've been testing v10 for well over a month now and am impressed by it's features and stability/reliability. I even still have it riding in a virtual environment. It will likely be pushed to a spare dedi we have.
I still think Elastix and PBXinaflash are going to be the most affordable solutions as they are FREE. You just have to buy your hardware. Plus there is a huge following for both! All the support online you could need free as well if you know how to tap into it..
From trying out many of the PBXs out their, our bet would be on PBXinaflash. Its simple to setup, quick, fast, secure and stable.
Trixbox is just to unsecure and their are too many unflagged security wholes which can cost you serious money if you don't know about them.
3CX is good and realistically if you are doing 4 concurrent calls. Then business should be good and you can look at upgrading your licence. However its based on windows, which means more costs through licencing and you have to reboot windows a bit more (from our experience.)
In our office, we have a PBXinaFlash server setup and have about 15 staff members on it split across several continents and works perfect. It also have the other little features like users can login and get their voicemails or setup call recording or download their recorded calls etc etc.
Give PBXinaFlash a go. It will suprise you.
All of our internal Server 08 R2 boxes reboot once a month for updates, that's about it; unless we're doing something to them.
Also if you do go the 3CX route, it will run on most versions of windows, including Windows 7. However if you do, and want to use faxing, you'll need something like 08 R2 Standard, Web Edition won't cut it.
We've got a 64 simultaneous call license coming, it's about $3500. For our size, that's pennies compared to our $6k/mo phone bill, we'll get it back quickly.
I've played with FreePBX also, it works fairly well. http://www.freepbx.org/ Tied with iCall, it would save a ton of money. A little more effort to get things going, but not by much.
On another note, I'm dumping iCall after testing. They don't have a broad range of number porting ability. :( They can only port 8 of our 153 DID's. We're testing http://www.nexvortex.com/ as they have no problem porting all of our line's over. They also support the T.38 codec, still need to test our luck with that. The cheapest you can be with them is about $25/mo for 500 minutes. iCall does a nice per minute plan with your DID's at 99 cents each and cheap rates. Jumping back to nexVortex, they are basically re-sellers for Level 3. So far the audio clarity and reliability is great. We have 20/20 fiber Ethernet at the office, so that helps things. :)
sipXecs at sipfoundry[dot]org is also very good, especially if load balancing / high availability is a required.
I also like PBXinaFlash (or FreePBX over Asterisk).
