Hello Fellow WHTers!

WHT is more than Web Hosting Talk

Dennis Johnson (aka SoftWareRevue)

It's been an interesting couple of weeks on WHT from my point of view. Since web hosting is a service, I always like to read the threads that are ultimately about that service. Good or bad, I like to see what's going on in the customer satisfaction arena of this service industry.

I won't name threads in this newsletter that have shown some darker sides to some providers because they have no way to refute anything I write here. I'll just say that there is some interesting reading on WHT.

I remember when I first landed on the forum while I was looking for a host and joining in an interesting discussion about how to remove ants. One of the moderators was having a time with them it seems. To me, it's what makes WHT a great community. Although we're well rooted in the web hosting industry, we're free to gain advice on a wide range of topics.

There's plenty of options out there. And WHT has a lot of them. Our first featured thread ponders the options when a web hosting company wants a web site built.

Three weeks to HostingCon! Be sure to stop by WHT's booth #140 and say Hi. Exhibit space is sold out. It's gonna be a heck of a show! Hope you've made your plans. If not, you can still register to attend. Don't forget your webhostingtalk2009 discount.

Are you following us on Twitter @WebHostingTalk?

Thanks for listening. And I'll see you on the forums.

Domain Name Appraisals

A domain name is worth what someone will pay for it. A domain that looks valuable on paper is worth what it appears to be worth only if someone is willing to pay that amount for it. On the other hand, a domain that doesn't look valuable at all may be valuable to someone who is willing to pay a lot for that domain. The value of a domain is what it's worth to someone else, and that value is often dependent on the revenue that the domain can help generate.

While no one can assign an exact value to a domain until someone has paid for it, the following criteria are commonly used to determine a domain's general worth. Having a combination of positive factors usually increases a domain's value.
